I attended today's game and what a letdown it was. Rider beat us 7-2 but it was much worse than that. They had 16 hits in the first 8 innings getting at least 2 I think in 7 of the innings. I thought we were bad last year but I think this team might be worse. Our pitching is not very good at all. Our team ERA coming into today was 7:58. Campbell who started had a 3:18 ERA and Rider hit him every inning. I think he gave up 11 in just 5 plus innings. I would think pitching should have been our top priority after last season but it doesn't look as if we have improved in that area at all. I sure hope I am wrong but I saw no intensity or enthusiasm from any of our coaches or players. Something seems to be wrong. Our head coach coaches third base but it doesn't seem as if he is trying to inspire our players at all. Rider came in at 6-10 and we were 6-13 and we got taken to the woodshed. I know Harris, Carter and Marcinczyk are pretty good players but I didn't see anyone else do much of anything today. We had two guys batting .183 and .114 in our lineup today. We loaded the bases twice and no one could deliver a run either time. In 7 of our losses we have given up at least 12 runs. That is hard to believe. After today I am very down. These things didn't happen when Fred Hill was in his prime. It just seems as if we have become a punching bag for other teams. I really hope I am wrong but I dread facing some of the hard hitting teams in the BIG.

Least talented roster since Freddy started his tenure in the early 80's. it is a shame.

Our pitching has been a mess for a few years now. It's depressing because the Big Ten is not even a good conference. This guy should be let go after the year.

I just don't, for the life of me, understand why we schedule Murderer's Row in Baseball OOC every year. Dumb it down and play Southern Scrubs instead of UCF, Miami and FSU. That way the team isn't 15 games under .500 when B1G play starts. I agree...send Litterio packing after the season if this keeps up.

It is not the schedule, it is the lack of talent. Fred always played the same tough schedule and made numerous NCAA tournaments, including some as an at large team.

Agreed, but he also had better teams. I'm not saying we should play complete scrubs, we should lighten it up a bit. Let them build some confidence. Maybe put your pitchers in a position to not give up 8 runs a game.

It isn't just the Florida teams. Rider made us look terrible yesterday. They were getting 2 hits in almost every inning. A 7:58 ERA is unimaginable. We must do better than that.

Recruiting is what drives college athletics. Most Rutgers sports have a difficult time in attracting top tier local talent and are then chasing around the country to fill the roster with lower tier talent .Perception and winning matters and its very difficult to recruit without success.

So you are saying Coach Hill never lost a game to a team his team should beat? Fine to question the state of current program but don't try to support your point of view with such a ridiculous comment. In baseball there are just times the lesser team wins.

I never said that Fred Hill never lost a game to a lesser team. All I know is our pitching needs some better arms. A 7:58 ERA is not going to get it done. At least we won 3 games over South Carolina Upstate so we are now 9-14. We must win the next 2 games over Monmouth and than we can see what we can do vs. the BIG teams. I just hope we can at least finish this season with a better than .500 record.

The pitching is not good...which is a shame because I think this is our best offensive team in years. Jay Harris is second in B1G in home runs, Mike Carter leads conference in batting average and hits...

Gaby Rosa was a freshman all-American pitcher before converting to shortstop. He is back on the bump and has looked pretty good. Serafino Brito throws strikes and pitched really well the other day...I'm not certain these performances with be sustainable though. It's important we find a way to get to Herrman with a lead late, as he's been a good reliever for RU for all four years now.
