Top Rutgers neurosurgeon placed on leave amid allegations regarding ‘professional conduct’

As an attorney/law professor why do you think that is? It does seem like a recurring issue.
I'm not sure I can completely explain it. I can tell you that past employers are *very* reluctant to say bad things about applicants for jobs elsewhere; the employers fear being sued. So the new employer has to dig deep to find out about an applicant. Perhaps Rutgers doesn't do that, and perhaps part of the reason is that Rutgers convinces itself that it *really* wants person X , and so it doesn't thoroughly investigate person X. But that's at least partly speculation.

What did Rutgers know about top neurosurgeon now under investigation before hiring him at $2.2M?

Yes, this is typical of Rutgers. The school doesn't make the investment necessary to vet candidates, and so we wind up with situations like this, just as we did with Julie Hermann and Richard McCormick. Penny-wise and pound-foolish. I saw ithis in the law school too.
