To get them to stay home. We've debated this for years. Schiano sold his vision, but had little history of success on his side to support it. We've expanded the stadium and enhanced facilities, we've now had a modicum of success going to 9 bowl games in 10 years (albeit no championships or major bowls) and we are now in a Power 5 Conference.
Nevertheless, NJ talent is still leaving the state in droves with recent recruiting history showing a regression from the strides we had made during the bowl run. This begs the question, what will it take? Or, is it really within the realm of possibility that top tier NJ talent will ever stay home and play for Rutgers?
Without the rich tradition and glamorous histories of storied programs like Michigan, USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida State, Alabama, etc. would even a big time coach be able to make it happen with recruiting in NJ?
Not to mention that we probably could never get a big time coach because of the same lack of history, tradition, boosters, money, etc... It's like pissin' in the wind.
