Tweet on Hobbs staying

Indeed it is great news for Rutgers.

I'm told that the combination of loyalty to Rutgers, not wanting to deal with John Thompson II and money were all factors in Hobbs decision to stay put.

The not wanting to deal with John Thompson is a big reason that Georgetown is struggling to hire assistant coaches and went into the live period with just Patrick Ewing and Louis Orr. Ewing has never recruited and Orr has been out of coaching since 2014.

Just curious, what's the problem when it comes to dealing with JT II?

People who are familiar with Georgetown tell me that he's a control freak still imposing his will on the one athletic program that generates money at Georgetown.

He's at home games and most road games, he participates in press conferences.

Thompson is on the Board of Directors of Nike. People at Georgetown are scared to death that JT2 will use his position at Nike to block kids from committing to Georgetown if the school doesn't hire who he wants them to hire.

Since he stepped down in the middle of the 1998-99 season at Georgetown, their head coaches have been his long time assistant Craig Esherick, his son JT3 & now Patrick Ewing.

There has not been a head coach at Georgetown that wasn't either connected to JT2 or JT2 himself in 45 years.

The AD at Georgetown has never "hired" a basketball coach. He was squeezed between an angry fan base, unhappy donors & JT2. When he realized that he had to move on JT3 he had no plan other than to get JT2's blessing.

The "search" for a HC at Georgetown after JT3 was fired, wasn't an open search. According to a source, JT2 signed off on his son's firing as long as Ewing was hired.

That gives you a glimpse of the situation at Georgetown.

Wow! I knew there were issues, but I didn't know it was that bad. That's one effed up situation for GU.
