UNC is in trouble again

Charleston Southern will sit another 30 guys this weekend.

That will show UNC once and for all.

F the NCAA. Spineless to the money makers, assholes to the weak.

I just read that story. Apparently she followed all the protocols went to the hospital, informed everyone immediately, school, police and they sat on it until now. She finally decided enough is enough and had some type of press conference.

The district attorney and AD Bubba Cunnigham(he claimed there is no ongoing investigation at this time) sat on it since Feb.. All her inquiries about the case, were apparently stonewalled by these two until now. Very disturbing things happening in the south.

Rape not a big deal down south. The police want the football teams to win first.

The only way the girl can win is sue the player if he makes it in the NFL.

Not sure if this is connected, but, a UNC spokesman stated that a former NJ lineman and Rutgers target who attends UNC was not at practice on Tuesday. I'm not going to mention his name.

Not really an NCAA issue. If it can't control TV contracts, how is it supposed to tell a school how to police itself? This is a UNC issue, which, of course, is a big part of the problem.

But if the woman was really a dude and wasn't allowed to use the bathroom at the hospital, then they'd really be in trouble. This system is so screwed up.

UNC was my dream school growing up as a kid in Greensboro, NC. Moved to Jersey before 9th grade in 2001 and went to Rutgers, and stopped paying attention to Carolina so much. What a shame how tarnished they've become. Everyone down there saw UNC in such high regard, with such pride, back when I lived there in the 90's, compare that to Jersey where everyone who has no connection to RU views it with disdain, how their tax dollars are paying for the football coach's salary. It could not be more opposite.

I think, for the most part, UNC is still a good school academically. However, there is a huge divide between what is expected of their students vs. their student athletes.
If they opt not to deal with these problems to protect football or basketball, then they run the very real risk of destroying the reputation of the ENTIRE school.

The choice is theirs, but I'm afraid of the decision they will make. I think punishments need to come down, and they need to be severe. This is becoming a sick joke.

Could not agree more. Moving to S.C. Could not believe the state pride in the Universities. The kids here WANT to attend the state schools. Very different from self loathing NJ folks who somehow see the State University as beneath them. My take, parents piss away money for the so called "prestige" of BC, BU, etc. Nothing
wrong with going out of state but Rutgers provides a great education however, I

guess not as interesting conversation at cocktail parties

Without doubt, UNC is "the" university for the state of NC. Established in 1789, it proclaims itself to be the nation's oldest state university. Maybe, in a sense. Families trace their ties to and support of UNC back many many generations, so its a legacy dynamic for Carolinians, which explains the school's hefty $3B endowment.

As such, its fan base also has that history, from when competitive collegiate sports became a "thing" in the late 19th-early 20th centuries. Carolinians are "all in" when it comes to their beloved Heels. And that's the rub: UNC can do no wrong. Winning is above all. Ethics be damned. It's power base and influence are supreme, across all government and industry. The emergence of "The Carolina Way" (courtesy of Dean Smith) is a symptom of that mindset: a self-aggrandized institutional persona touting its core integrity and strict honor code, of doing things the right way, always, a model for others to admire and aspire to. It's make believe, of course. It's a lie.

Anyway, in NJ, "Dear Old" Rutgers never held that position. Princeton and other IV schools were the "shared"-NJ equivalent of UNC, with loyalties in NJ distributed among them, and legacy followings as well. Rutgers was the working man's school. Still is? Powerful families sent their heirs elsewhere. In NC, you went to UNC.

Duke, as an aside, became Duke University when the Duke (tobacco) family made a mega-gift to Durham's Trinity College (1859); the College of New Jersey (Princeton) was offered the Duke $ before Trinity College, but the NJ school was unwilling to agree to stipulations involving architectural standards, if my fading memory serves me.

Davidson, Wake, Warren Wilson are all fine NC schools, but far removed from UNC in terms of statewide support.

NC State is a land grant school with a traditional focus on agriculture and engineering. State and the rest of the UNC system schools take a back seat to UNC-CH. Always have. Likely always will. That said, some cutting edge science and technology advances have helped solidify State's second place standing. SAS Institute and CREE exemplify the State success stories and standing.

Other UNC system schools including Wilmington, Asheville, Appalachian, Greensboro have solid support, but are "Tier 3" behind (1) UNC and (2) NCSU. UNC-Charlotte is a bit different, still.

And then there are the "historical" African-American schools in the system (NCCU, NCA&T, Fayetteville State, Elizabeth City, etc.). That "Tier 4" was created by the state (UNC) to serve another purpose.

No idea how someone could be a fan of a program like that.

Remember the UNC/Duke rivalries we would have back in school, when Jamison/Vince Carter were in school, and Duke had guys like Battier/Elton Brand, and even Laettner further back. Most kids were UNC fans, and all the rich kids rooted for Duke. I despised Duke growing up, the way most of this board hates Penn State. I was a big Wake Forest fan too as a kid, went there for basketball camp the year after Duncan graduated, couldn't believe how tall the kids were lol, I was like 5'3" at 12 and my roommate must've been over 6 feet. Remember Dave Odom teaching us a few drills and then they broke us up into teams to play in a tournament. Remember how beautiful Wake's campus was, and how I didn't wanna leave. Those were great times.

The rise of Coach K and then the emergence of Jimmy V are what triggered the UNC fake-class scam. UNC's base just could not permit these two nearby rivals to usurp their MBB power. So UNC's Educational Foundation (Ram's Club) and the admin found a way to attract and keep talent eligible, without burdening them with legitimate educational pursuits.

I think they've already made that choice and their choice was to protect Football and Basketball above all else. Just look at the fake classes allegations. Instead of deciding to self impose penalties(they were caught red handed), they chose to stall and lawyer up. Hell one of their defenses was that since they stalled some of the allegations were past the statue of limitations.

Then this one where a student does everything she's supposed to and only now after she gets feed up and holds a press conference do they suspend the player. The DA saying his investigation is still ongoing 6 months later common now. What the AD and DA both wanted was to stonewall her and hope this would go away. O they chose their path alright.

a player allegedly raped a girl on VALENTINES DAY.. She reported it and he finally got suspended today pending an investigation. That school is a piece of shit.

This is what can happen @ UNC (University of No Classes) when you hold a real class ....and someone actually shows up.
