PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 25, 2015) – Rutgers head football coach Kyle Flood announced redshirt sophomore Hayden Rettig will start at quarterback in the Scarlet Knights’ season opener on Saturday, Sept. 5 against Norfolk State. Kickoff is set for noon and will broadcast on ESPNews.
“Hayden Rettig will start our Sept. 5 game against Norfolk State,” said Flood. “Five players – Leonte Carroo, Tim Gleeson, Chris Laviano, Eric Margolis and Ruhann Peele – will be suspended for the first half of the season opener due to a curfew violation.”
Rettig transferred to Rutgers after his freshman season at LSU. He sat out the 2014 season due to NCAA transfer rules and has three seasons of eligibility starting in 2015.
Rutgers will play its first two games of the 2015 season at High Point Solutions Stadium, before opening Big Ten play on the road for a primetime matchup against Penn State on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on BTN.
