Utah 90, UCLA 44

Wow, that’s a crazy outcome. Didn’t realize UCLA had gotten so bad. Weren’t they just in the Final Four like 3 years ago?

How the briefly mighty (but also historically, to be fair) have fallen. It was a fortuitous but historic run that year. Play-in 11 seed. Very much a dark horse to have reached the FF. Mick Cronin is a very good coach though.

Quick scan of their stats and rotation
UCLA is 5-10
Ohio. St won on a neutral and Maryland @ UCLA mean nothing this year.
They have the 347th ranked Scoring offense worse than us.
They have 8 consensus top 100 players, one being a 5 ⭐.big from 2022.

Only 1 Sr forward contributing 9 minutes a games and a JR G/F starter playing the 3 & 4, the rest are sophomore, r-fr, and freshman learning how to play the game together in Mick Cronin's system. They only have 25.2% of the minutes returning and 16.5% of the scoring returning from 22-23. You thought having an inexperienced backcourt with one returning guard with one year under Pike along with 2 grad transfers and a talented freshman are bad, Try a backcourt of talented sophomores and freshman learning a new system in the backcourt together.

Seems like a model case for the importance of team chemistry.

The roster construction is insane — five foreign born underclassmen in the rotation and just two upperclassmen on the team period I think.
