They are probably going to be a good football team this season. We know they have good players and will be really well coached. But some of the hyperbole coming out of the press is pretty ridiculous.

Can't wait for the game.

You have to look at the historical perspective. Until 2001, this had been traditionally one of the strongest programs on the West Coast, with a number of high national rankings capped by their 1991 National Championship team.

Then came some very tough times for the program, beginning with the dismissal of Rick Neuheisel and capped by a disastrous 0-12 2008 season when Jake Locker got injured early in the year.

The fans have been starving for success. The arrival of Chris Petersen whet the appetite; the emergence of the defense (trust me, doubters will be converted on Saturday) last year began the craziness. Excitement around a program isn't a bad thing as long as it remains reasonable. Around Seattle, its more reasonable than with the national media. Nobody (or very few anyway) expects a CFP season this year.

Now, we will begin to see what happens.

Because unlike the B1G, the PAC was playing a 9 game conference schedule on top of solid OOC opponents. The PAC teams averaged just over 10 regular season P5 oppoents when the B1G barely managed an average of 9 P5 opponents per team.

Chew on that one.

Death row my *ss..............
Washington led the PAC in defense last season AFTER losing three defensive players to the 1st round of the NFL draft and another defensive player in the 2nd round of the draft.

Jeez what can we do their defense is just so dominant. We should just quit. Its death row. Noone can run the ball against them. Well except for Boise State who ran for 185 on them. Or USC who ran for 190. Oh yeah and then there's Stanford who chalked up 188 against them. But after that they were stalwart. Oh and yeah Utah who ran 191 against them. But they are dominant. Oregon did run 170 against them though. But after that noone.

It's easy to post that if you don't know the real numbers. UW's offense finished next to dead last in the conference last season. The offense was full of freshmen and sophomores last year including a true freshman at QB and RB. Washington's defense spent the majority of those games on the field. By the time the 4th qtr. started they were out of wind.

UW faced RB's last season such as Booker (Utah), McCaffery (Stanford) and the best of all the PAC RB's ... Royce Freeman of Oregon.

Offense couldn't sustain drives and turned ball over excessively. Advanced stats measures looked better. Scoring d actually very good; yards per play pretty good as well

Well let me also post you some real numbers. We actually split time evenly between our two running backs, Martin and Hicks, and they combined for 1427 yards and 10 touchdowns. Oh and yeah 4 out of our 5 starters on the offensive line are back. So we expect to run on you. We are better at running the ball than than Oregon State (who ran for 148 against you) and Arizona State (who ran for 141 against you).

But 9 of those 10 P5 opponents were PAC12.. soooo... does that really count?

Why just look at total yards? UW was the #10 defense in the nation in average yards per rushing attempt. If a team got yards it's because they had a lot of carries to go with it.

You guys are used to having a local paper like the SL that delights in saying the local team sucks. That's NOT the norm around the country.

mdk
That's not the case, if we're good and deserve it, the SL sucks are ass.
They are overly critical when we stink

You saying the PAC is an easy conference? Try playing the likes of Stanford, USC, Oregon, UCLA and Utah year in and year out. Unlike some other P5 conferences, the PAC doesn't dodge its own conference members.

Oregon St. ran for 141 yards yet lost to Washington by a score of 52 - 7. I'll admit that Washington had problems vs the run. Cal exposed that the first conference game last season. Washington's OL is also another weak spot. The pass protection last year sucked.

the PAC is a 12 team conference, you play 9 conference games, so inherently doesn't each team "dodge" 2 conference teams each year?

Dodging is when you have a bloated 14 member conference and only play an 8 game conference schedule .. now that's dodging.

We actually play a 9 game Conference Schedule. We face Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, Penn State, Maryland and Indiana every single season, and play crossovers Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois this year. Last season, we had Wisconsin and Nebraska as crossovers.

There's no dodging here.

This will be the first year the B1G has ever played a 9 game conference schedule. Before this season it was always 8 game conference schedules for the B1G.

One does not make EXCUSES for GREAT programs. One just smiles.

Hey.. your argument is with the SEC. The Big Ten has always played quality OOC games (often vs the PAC) that made up for 8 conference games.

In the SEC, you have Bama playing USC in a neutral, indoor stadium, and 8 conference games and nothing else. They front load the schedule with conference game so they don't have to play quality OOC games and still get to play the ranking game and TV ratings game... then in November they will play the likes of Chattanooga while every other P5 conference program is in the middle of the conference schedule.

I took Rutgers and the points back when the line was at 24.
That's a win-win for you if you bet lightly. If UW cruises.. you are happy and won't miss the money. If UW wins and you win your bet..BONUS. And we know the odds mean *something*.. you don't have a lot of people here suggesting bet Rutgers on the straight W.
