Do you think it would be a good idea to have valet parking at the stadium?
Fans drop their car off in the scarlet lot and walk into the stadium or to the tailgates. Then a parking attendant drives it to the lot across the street from the Hill Center that is currently unused. They can pack them all in tight. Basically doubling the size of the lot.
Charge $60 per game for a valet parking pass.

And so after the game it takes you an hour to get your car back, only to have to fight the madness that is getting out of Scarlet/Green onto River Road?

Yeah, no.

It would take too long for the attendants to get back and forth from lot to lot. You'd have to hire a small army of attendants to overcome the logistical obstacles.

yeah, great idea. And after the valet parks his car the valet can replace his lazy ass at the tailgate of his choice.

Not the worst idea OP, but, the cost would be more like $100-200 for the crappy games and $250-$500 for the big games.
Drop off and pickup by the football practice fields. After the game you would need a small army (parking lot attendants could fill that role as they're not utilized after the game) with walkie talkie communication and the Livingston parking lot is what should be utilized. No more than 15 minutes to get your car back.

Actually this merits some consideration. Could work well if logistics are worked out. Benefits - more parking space and additional revenue stream for the athletic department. Surprised at the "Knee jerk" reaction that this is bad idea - c'mon be open minded!-

They already have Reserved parking in the Scarlet Lot that is close to the gates. People can drive in 2 mins before kickoff and park in the first non handicap row.
And it costs a lot more than $60 a game!

Just price it so high, maybe ($150) that only a handful of people would go for it and you could use a handful of valets. Also they could text the valets when they are leaving so they could get the cars ready.

It's not knee jerk. It's just that it doesn't take much thought to realize it's a non-starter. Given the current arrangement of lots and ingress/egress, there's just nowhere to stage all the cars waiting to be parked without causing congestion problems.

From the standpoint of raising money, the idea has merit. It's just logistically implausible at this time.

I did make a sarcastic comment in response to the idea but I do agree that there is some merit to at least start a discussion to see if it is feasible as an additional way to raise funds.

Not a terrible idea but doubtful it will work. An issue is the fact that the attendants would be driving against the grain both before and after the games and that could create more traffic problems than its worth

I would rather see some effort going in to improving the bus service - particularly getting people back to the RAC after the game faster and with fewer lines. I often wonder how many would be fans stay away from games because of the long lines for buses after the games.

Why does it have to be either/or? Couldn't they look at both suggestions? I would suggest sending a note to the fan committee copying Hobbs with what you see as issues that need to be addressed.

How far away are the cars in the Scarlet Lot that people don't want to walk the extra 5 feet?

I think his point is that people who don't have Scarlet parking and don't use their cars for tailgating would be inclined to use valet parking.

The problem, as others have pointed out, is there is really no place to stage the parking so that you could get cars back to the stadium. The only way it could work is if they they took away part of the Scarlet, Green, Brown, or Yellow lots. But that means that Rutgers would be giving up the revenue that those parking spaces generate. So the only way valet parking could generate additional revenue is to price it high enough that the only people who could make use of valet parking are those who already qualify for the Scarlet, Green Brown, or Yellow lots.

But there is little value for valet parking for those people. Why wait for your car after the game, versus just making the short walk and getting into your car. (The only possible exception is for Audi Club holders, who might want valet parking, especially on rainy days. This could be easily done within the Brown Lot.)

1. Say you do that with 500 cars. How many parking attendants would you need to meet that 15 minute turnaround?

2. How do you meet that 15 minute deadline given the other traffic around the stadium at that time?

3. Who has the keys during the game? How is that coordinated with post game retrieval?

4. Can you screen parking attendants for those who have driven a stick? If not, how do you screen who picks up what car?

It sounds nice in theory, but I can't see it working in practice.

There really is very little merit to adding more $. You would only be robbing Peter to pay Paul. Most of those that would use that service are already shelling out $2,500 for V.I.P. Reserved. So you not really gaining anything

How about a helicopter pad? Quick in and out at an outrageous price. $$$$
I think we should dredge the Raritan river and offer slips for yachts. Do this right and we might wind up having our own Formula One race right here in New Brunswick.

logistically - you could park remotely - say some where on Davidson dining or Busch and the KnightingGale golf cart brings you directly to your lot. The golf carts have greater freedom of movement and greater access to the various lots. Added bonus - your car is located in a lower volume traffic area.

Road around stadium is closed to vehicles so you can't use a lot south or east of the stadium. Even if something could be worked out the time it would take to get your car after the game would rival the buses back to the RAC.

Brilliant idea helicopters..... But it's a huge security issue to let anything fly near a stadium. It would never "fly"

How did that work out last year? I remember a lot of people bitching that it would be a disaster when it was announced.

There were six spots total. Mostly elderly people just coming for the game right before kickoff. I don't remember any game where all spots were used.
There were about 4 in the Green Lot and they were used by people that tailgated.

Actually - there is a need here! How many fans do you know park in purple or blue but walk over to a tailgate in Yellow say? Call it a concierge service - rather than taking a Blue lot pass - park in a remote lot and have the golf cart bring the person and a their tailgate stuff (meaning coolers and the like) to specific lots. Our tailgate area in Yellow has many folks in that situation - it also limits what they bring - or is just simply cumbersome. Use of the golfcarts makes this very doable.

There were 17 spots that were reserved & used almost every game in the Green lot

So the golf carts currently used for the elderly and/or disabled should be use for lazy people instead (no offense, however, we're not talking about miles of walking here...)? Also you can drop off your tailgate stuff at the entrance of any lot. Never has been a problem for Blue, Purple, or Black, I can tell you that for sure.

Huh? There were 4 spots with painted lines and gravel in the Green Lot with reserved signs near the walk way next to the Bubble. Where were the others?

In front of the first row of Green lot along Sutphen lane. $ 1,000 for the season was told. Quick exit to River Rd

Not that I would ever support this particular idea, but there already is a designated & fenced-in helicopter landing/take-off zone within 5 minutes of the stadium, wedged between the west edge of the Blue Lot and Yurcak field. Also, Army Blackhawk helicopters have landed on the grass southeast of the Werblin athletic center before games before.

You can't turn off of River Rd without a Scarlet or Green Pass.

And while I think the idea of golf carts or trams from the outer lots makes sense. It potentially takes a lot of trams (since, as you noted, you don't want to take seats away from handicapped and elderly). I don't know how you pay for that, unless you charge per ride.

You would get more golf carts as this would be a pay for service. My understanding is it is a mile walk from some lots to the yellow or scarlet. Not an issue of laziness - as you are carrying or toting your cooler or food stuff to a tailgate in a lot you are not parked in.

Noooooo, really? River Road is essentially the "entrance" to those 2 lots AND about an entire minute's walk to them.

You can't stop on River Rd at the turnoff either. If you try to stop to unload people or tailgate stuff, the cops will make you move.

And if you are going to drop someone off on River Rd to have them lug your stuff 1/4 mile up to the Green Lot, and then go park in the Blue or Purple lot, then you might as well just lug your stuff from the Blue lot to the Green lot anyway. It is not that much further. (Which I guess is the point you were trying to make.)

There were over 40 spots with painted lines for parking on the gravel in the Green lot & 17 of them were paid for and used for nearly every game.
