Football VIDEO: Rutgers Football HC Greg Schiano talks Illinois Postgame

You lost it coach. The players gave you their all and you over thought it. 58 yds., winds he couldn't possibly calculate for (unless you give him a free kick) from that far out, he was already iced. I was screaming don't call TO it's an improbable kick cold.

100% needed to call the TO before he was able to get the kick off. Not even debatable. Stinks he had to learn that lesson today.

I liked the blitz and can live with the result there. It didn't work out. I hope he stays aggressive in the future.

Outside the TO, not sure what else the staff could have done. I thought it was the staff's best performance on offense. We just couldn't bring in the deep shots.

Not sure what the staff could have done differently on defense. We just don't have enough players. A number of the guys that are still left look like they are banged up.

What a pathetic press conference. No accountability.
Really. I couldn't believe the laid back way he just discussed the end of the game. He was actually smirking at times about just having to make a decision and sometimes it works and some times it does not. He made like he felt so bad for the senior but did not indicate that he let them down. Tried suggest those plays by themselves did not lose the game when they absolutely did.

It's called lifetime job security.

At the time of the kick I didn't see the time out and I was celebrating. The I saw it and I was like Nooooooooo! But I thought he would try the kick again. When the offense went on the field I thought for sure it was going to be an RU win. Make one tackle and watch the time run out.

That press conference is the definition of hubris. Smug look almost smiling. Can’t admit that he single-handedly handed Illinois that win. There was no need to call that time out and less of a need to evacuate the middle of the field on the next play.

Kirk called his most complete game of the season. Outside of one possession. He crushed it. Defense dis enough to win and once again coaching lost this game.

no once they completed we were in trouble. Clock stopping for the chains gives them time to spike it

You realize Bryant had enough for a first down so the clock would have stopped and they could have had another shot at a FG.

LOL the defense didn't do enough to win this game they got torched multiple times and committed horrible penalties on 3 and long multiple times giving IU 8 extra downs on one possession. One guy from IU had 197 yards . Our defense is very suspect.

Absolutely no need to call the time out. Impossible conditions to make a near 60 yard field goal. Anything longer than 40 yards had less than a 25% chance of success. Watched pre game and half time specials warming up. No one could figure out the wind. There were nothing but shanks when they went to distance.

That's what I thought was going to happen after he caught it.
Go down, clock stops for 1st down, spike, kick FG.

Then he kept running and I hoped he wasted too much time.
Didn't realize he had the angle to go all the way.

GS said he wanted to call a TO to make sure everyone knew their assignment. Nothing wrong with calling a time out for that, but it has to happen before he gets the kick off.

The assignment was easy. Don’t fall for a fake. Because there was no way that kick was getting there. There was no need for a rush or block. This was contain only.

This is where lack of a special teams coach showed. A special teams coach would have relayed that info to him.

listened to it twice now and just can't believe how smug, dismissive and lack of accountability

needs to be let go, he's just not the right guy
After this debacle today we need a change at the top! Let Kirk take over the team and maybe we become offensive minded

Anyone who has a problem with that presser is out of their minds. You’re being too emotional. He said they coached a little better and played a little better. Was reflective about the timeout call.

They could have run another 30 seconds off the clock before the TD pass. No earthly reason to rush to score at 1:08.

the worst part about Schiano is his attitude and hubris. I work in finance, and there are a bunch of senior leaders exactly like him. These people literally cannot ever admit they made mistake. They will take their entire unit down with them and never acknowledge their failings.

And Schiano rules the roost. If you call him out in a press conference that’s the last time he’ll take a question from you.

We were ahead with a little over a minute to go. Had them stopped at midfield and got them off the field until the infamous timeout. That is doing enough. Did I say they played lights out? No far from it. But they did their job and coaching let them down.

Would have had much more respect if he had just said "this one is on me. I f'd up."
But nah. Teflon Greg.
Literally walked out of the stadium and said if he takes responsibility in the press conference, he’ll regain my respect. Just so frustrated with him today

Have to say I first focussed on his saying you have to feel when to call the ice the kicker thing... but I agree, for Greg, this was an admission of guilt. I wouldn't be surprised if GS is one of those guys who ascribe to the "Don't apologize, its a sign of weakness) school of thought.

But he did say he'd wish he hadn't called the T-O or that he could have called it earlier.

That might be his version of taking responsibility.

He has an 8 year free pass. He can give an rat’s a## about anyone internally or externally questioning his inept Game Day Coaching.
