Basketball VIDEOS: Steve Pikiell / Greg Gard talk Postgame

Media is too easy on Pike. No one pressed Pike on Harper.

Whose decision was to sit Harper?
Why did it take 15 minutes to realize he shouldn't play?
How was he in practice?
Why was he out last night at a womans game?
Why did he travel with team?
What is team doing to help Dylan get back healthy?

When your superstar player wants to give it a go, you let him give it a go. Dylan Harper at 75% is better than most of the others on the team at 100%.

He gave it a go and tried to do what he could, but it was clear he wasn't up to the task health wise. He was struggling out there to run, play defense, etc.

Again, he got back to practicing over the past few days and decided to give it a go, but wasn't ready. Kid lost nine pounds with the flu.

He's a college kid, he can do whatever he wants and wasn't contagious, so him being at the women's game has ZERO effect on him or his play.

Again, staff took all the precautions and wasn't contagious so they took him on the trip, he went through shootaround, but wasn't able to go for pregame warmups.

EVERYTHING. If you had the flu, what would you do? Rest and fluids. They did everything in their power to get him back to playing, but there's only so much you can do to train your body to get back to normal.

There was nothing else to be asked when talking about Harper. Kid was sick, tried to give it a go, end of story.

How did he look in practice?

Taking an airplane and staying in a hotel isnt exactly rest

Why did he practice if he was still sick and not ready to play in a game?

You act like he's going to the airport, sitting in basic economy and then going to a Holiday Inn. They have a chartered flight, a nice hotel room where he can sleep all day and rest up, while also getting what he needs from the training staff. Not to mention, he was VERY close to playing on Thursday.

He's not sick, he's still recovering from being sick. Have you ever had the flu? It's not easy to bounce back from so quickly.

he wasnt better than the rest of the team in the first half...he clearly was ineffective and shouldnt have been playing and its no coincidence that without him RU started to settle down and play consistent ball on both ends.

If he is that sick and everyone is talking about him losing 9 lbs then no he shouldnt be travelling to Indiana or going to a womens game, he should be doing everything in his power to get healthy and to help the team and that involves REST

very close to playing Thursday??? yet 4 days later looking like he couldnt move and ready to throw up within the first couple of minutes.

to me its not like all of a sudden he was ill...he has been ill...he needs to recover by resting and that includes not travelling all the way to Indiana and then watching a womens game

Kid has asthma and is recovering the flu, his first game back wasn't going to be pretty no matter.

You guys are reaching here by complaining about a college kid attending a game as a fan. You want him to sit in a bubble for multiple weeks until he's 100%? That's not just realistic, he's an 18 year old kid at the end of the day.

These people are ridiculous. They're not happy unless they can try to concoct some hidden agenda in everything.

You really have people here complaining about the coaching staff not being pressed on Harper? It's absolutely 100% clear that the kid is feeling better after recovering from the flu and felt like he could play. What more is there to ask about that? You give it a go, and it didn't work out. There's nothing else to ask about that!

These same people are also going to ask about my loyalty to this school and team simply because I chose to make light of an insult, yet they have no problem wanting to fight the coaching staff on something so stupid as to why Harper is recovering and trying to play. By the way, my request to change the username still hasn't gone through yet. I emailed them several times, and here we are.

he didnt need to be playing last night..thats the point, its easy to figure that out. and he didnt need to be traveling to Indiana either. If someone is losing that much weight then no they shouldnt be giving it a go and it definitely hurt the start last night as rutgers was basically playing 4 on 5

This is definitely not black and white.
Let's also not forget he did play 15 minutes
He also practiced since the Indiana game
He also, by his accounts, was ready to go back in to the game
He didn't know until, I believe, the 8 minute mark he wasn't going back in to the game
