Just posted on this on a reply to a free board thread but I felt it was necessary to post on the RT...
I just took a look at all the time RU results out of curiosity to see the last win against a ranked opponent. In the Flood era, we are 0-7 against ranked opponents. We haven't defeated a ranked opponent since 11/12/2009 against #23/24 USF. If that isn't good enough for you, our last respectable ranked opponent win was against #17/20 Pitt 10/25/2008.

Schiano from 2001 to 2004 was 0-10 against ranked opponents. From 2005 until his finish 2011, he was 4-8 against ranked opponents. Interpret that how you will but I would hope we can aspire for better than that.
What a sobering reminder of how far we have to go. This Saturday night would be a great start no doubt. But if we do decide to go in a different direction after this year, I want a frieken HC who can finally knock off some ranked opponents and dare I say consistently? Might be too much to ask but we all certainly deserve it and that's the fastest way to become the national darling again instead of being vilified. Big. Noticeable. Victories.
