We hit the scoring wall

Can’t wait to see how the B1G schedule goes if we are averaging 50 points a game. To those who thought losing Corey Sanders, Deshawn, and Mike Williams would equal more scoring for Rutgers, are idiots
I had to control myself when people said losing Corey Sanders would mean better ball movement. Honestly, imagine thinking losing Corey Sanders would equal better offense lol

Rutgers offense was ranked 270 on KenPom last season. It’s 217 entering today. That’s a massive improvement.

I think Rutgers would have won the game with Sanders today because he would have taken pressure off of Baker.

And would have been even better with Sanders

that's a guess and impossible to prove. Sanders never had an eFG% above 50% in his career and liked to shoot a lot. He also never had great assist to turnover ratios.

Now is it the chicken or the egg? Did he put up so many questionable shots because he didn't have talent around him? Or did he because that was his game? I mean he was a bit of a chucker in HS.

The only thing clear about Sanders is that if he game back he was going to use a ton of possessions. Hard to say if he was all of a sudden going to be far more efficient than he had ever been in the past.

A power conference team should not be ranked 217 or anywhere near that low rating.

Power conference teams with an O or D ranked 200 or below on KenPom right now...

Rutgers offense (216)
Georgia Tech offense (208)
Utah defense (226)
Washington State defense (255)
Cal defense (267)

Plenty of teams worse than 150 in one or the other.

People need to look at the raw numbers. In these games we aren't shooting well we are still scoring more per possession than last year.

We scored 66 in 70 possessions vs. SHU. No doubt we need to improve, but that number is better than our typical outing last year.

I will say we have looked bad to the eyeball, but I can think of no better metric than points per possession to evaluate offense. Pretty much apples to apples.

One bad stat for us is that we don't take that many threes (228th in the country in 3PA/FGA) but we're also TERRIBLE at getting to the line (315th in FTA/FGA).

For as much as we shoot inside we should be better at drawing contact. Seton Hall shoots a similar percentage of threes and twos as us (percentage of shots taken, that is, not shots made), but is 49th in the country at getting to the line.

I like that our TOs are going down. I think the getting to the line also is part because we don't have guards (other than Mathis) that penetrate in to the paint. Our SOS might also have something to do with not getting to the line when you comapre a NOn adjusted stat.

Your point is well taken though.

I think the 3PA/FGA and FTA/FGA are raw, not adjusted... Not even sure how you'd adjust that for opponents unless worse schools tend to foul more.

And, even when we get to the line, we are bad at making FTs!

Some experts and know it alls on this site belittled those of us who said the offense would be better had Sanders stayed. It’s one thing to have an erroneous opinion, it’s another thing to be condescending about it.

The same dumb dumbs who said our offense would be better when Douby left because it would flow better.

Except the Rutgers offense crated after Douby left (dropped from 68 to 214) whereas it has improved after Sanders left.

And would be even better if Sanders was here. We are missing a quick point guard this year and having Corey this year would have really helped this team.

But that is just an opinion that can't be supported with any facts. The notion that the Rutgers offense would get worse if Sanders left is proven false. Sanders was never efficient in any way. The only argument in favor of him being more efficient if he had come back would be that he was only being inefficient for 3 years because he had no help around him and if he had more help (like this season) he'd have not taken so many ill advised shots.

But anybody making that argument is just pulling out random guesses that can't be supported with facts.

And unrelated, Quincy Douby was (unlike Corey Sanders) an advanced stats beast. He was monstrous his junior season playing 90% of available minutes, taking 38% of his teams shots (2nd highest nationally), and still putting up a 115 O-rating with a 25% assist rate and a very low TO rate and very good shooting inside and out. On a good team those would be national POY numbers.
