We need 25+ from Ace tonight…

What's the plan?

Of his 12 shots, how many were good shots? 6?

Didn't see the ball in Bailey's hands very often last night. There wasn't much opportunity for a drive and kick to Bailey cause Harper had so much success getting all the way to the basket.

We can't get him the ball near the low block 4-5 times a game? Pick and pop for 3? If Ace has the ball on the wing, the big must IMMEDIATELY go to the weak side block. LS was posting up and calling for it. WTF? What did they do for Melo and Durant when they were in college? The staff needs to figure some shit out.

We seem to do too much standing around on offense.

I am definitely NOT an X’s and O’s guy in hoops. But he is 6’10” with bounce so hopefully we figure it out.

Need Ace to play in the paint. Crash boards and get put backs. But it’s nasty in there and I don’t see much nasty in him so far. Unfortunately, he could benefit from some offensive scheming to free him up but that likely is not coming.

I think you misunderstand Bailey's game. He is NOT a post-up player - though he can hit the turnaround.

Bailey is a pure WF. Yes, he can score at the rim, but mainly on transition shots, offensive rebound follow-ups, alley-oops and cuts down the lane receiving passes. Mainly he takes 3's (through catch and shoot, pull-up 3-point jumpers in transition, or a jab step and step-back 3's), or the mid-range through drives into the lane or high post or inside 3-point line post ups - and then pulling up and/or stepping back to elevate over his defender with the turnaround jump shot. I bet 80% plus of his high school scoring was from the 3-point attempts I describe and the mid-range as I describe.

For what it is worth, I tried to tell this Board, that though just my opinion, RU would have to make its way through games where Bailey would go 3-14, or 5-16, 5-18 - i.e. cold, missing shots while taking a high volume of shots, maybe scoring 10-15 points only ... but he would ALSO have games where he was hitting those shots, and go 9-14, 10-16, 12-18 or better ... and score 25+ points - or 30+ in some games. That is simply the nature of the beast with Bailey: His ceiling and shot-making ability is so high, he is GOING to take those shots - some days he will miss, but we HOPE there will be MORE days when he HITS those shots.

And though Harper currently has a 5 ppg edge on Bailey, I remain convinced Bailey will end up being RU's leading scorer by the end of the season ... Though Harper may be RU's best player. This has been my view from pre-season on, and remains so. Bailey has played just 4 games. He has 2 poor shooting games and 2 good shooting games ... I expect his good shooting games to be more often than his poor shooting ones.

To beat Alabama, RU will NEED the "good shooting" Bailey, as well as another good to great game from Harper. Alabama is just so ridiculously athletic at every position, and deep into their bench also. The only way RU can offset that is to shoot well. It would help if RU's role players ALSo play well - and frankly, the role players need to play well just to have RU be competitive with Alabama.

The problem is not the others guys or the coaching staff. It is all on ACE . He is being unusually timid , refuses to drive to the basket , staying in the corner too long , not moving without the ball , not rebounding , not shot blocking , not playing hard enough. Everyone of these things he is capable of and has the God Given talent to excel at but for some reason it is not happening. All mental right now.

Had he done that as a high school player, or was it all finesse
and outside shots

Need martini to be effective pulling cliff and the other big out of the paint and rim protection
We also need Martini and Hayes to take more threes. In addition, I would like to see Ace drive to the basket more. Yes, he's known as a wing player who can pick and pop from the outside, but when he's off like he was last night, he needs to drive to the basket and draw fouls. He's more than talented to draw fouls and score in the paint.

We aren’t doing him any favors, we are getting him the ball consistently 18+ feet from the basket when he is already covered. We need to create some opportunities to get him some shots cutting to the rim or coming off screens.

Ace had a rebound come right to him last night in the last 4 minutes where he could have gone right to the basket and jammed, he completely froze.

Need some of the guys with fresher legs to step up tonight.

These 6 all played less than 25 minutes last night: Acuff(24), Martini(20), Lathan(17), Hayes(10), Davis(8), and Ogbole (7).

Most minutes were played by Dylan(39), Ace(36), Derkack(35), and JWill(29).

Agreed, I would love to see him play with more toughness. I would also love to see more toughness from Martini, Somerville, and Ogbole when it comes to rebounding, not just Ace.
