should all be close games and anything can happen in close games.

So far this season we have seen penalties are down and our FB fundamentals are also more sound (much better open field tackling and DB coverage). Run blocking has also been good when you consider our lack of pass game with Laviano.

IF (big IF) we can get QB Oden up to speed with some of the younger receivers like Bailey in the passing game, we may have a season that turns out more like the 2008 season.

unlike most seasons, this season our toughest games were at the start (UW, OSU, UM) not the end. We very well may end on a hot streak with a little luck and younger players stepping up.

All is not lost. Step back from the ledge.

The 2008 season had a disastrous first half and a very good ,into a Bowl, second half.

The first half of that season Teel was playing a bit like Laviano is now. The second half he played out of his mind, and he had Underwood, Britt, and Brown to throw to.
I think that Mike had a banged up thumb at the beginning. It sure was working well that night against the "Ville.

Look at it this way. Our skill players, including QB, still have a lot of room for development so they are getting better much faster than already developed skill players on other teams. Which means we're catching up fast and will be more and more competitive as the season progresses.

Also, we're due some good luck for a change. So at least we have that going for us.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

We had a shot when Grant was playing. I think maybe we get 1 or 2 more wins. I think we can play all these teams tough but I don't see how we win 4 more games.

Based on the recent Sagarin ratings, RU has not lost to any team worse (#32 Iowa) than the best of these six (#51 MSU). RU has also not beaten any team better (#107 UNM) than the worst of these six (#78 Illinois). A bowl season is still a legitimate possibility even if RU gets thrashed by Michigan Saturday. Just stay healthy and improve everyday.

You do know Harris is no chopped liver no not as quick or shifty but a solid replacement with better hands

Oden should have better chemistry with Harris and Bailey as the season progresses. The rest of the games after Michigan are toss ups where we face comparable talent. We should be able to win a few of them just due to the fact that this team plays hard every play and is much better conditioned.

Bingo. Lots of freshmen playing and getting better - untapped potential. Also, sometimes it takes time to lose bad habits, which is what is happening with some of the upper classmen. The team that will face Maryland and PSU will be a better team that faced Washington.

On Michigan State, who just lost to Indiana, a Goofus and Gallant (From Highlights) analysis.

Goofus: We will never beat Michigan State. We will never beat Indiana because they beat Michigan State:

Gallant: We can beat both Indiana and Michigan State. [banana]

Illinois
Maryland

I'd only consider us on the moneyline vs those two. That's how I deem our likelihood to win.

A win over IU (yes IU), MSU, Minnesota, and PSU would be upsets IMO. Still thinking 3-4 wins. Beatin New Mexico was big to have a chance at 4 wins.

Illinois - Win
Minnesota - Win
Indiana - Better not get into another shootout with our "offense"...
MSU - No Chance
PSU - Still not there [poop]
Maryland - Who's turn is it this year? :flush:

I think the ironic thing is this could be a horrible year AND still be the year RU finally beats Penn State.

I'm still confident in a few more wins. Losing Grant was a huge loss - and we still need a QB to emerge - but I think Ash and his defense might be able to handle regular teams, just not juggernauts.

6 wins would be nice but it's a long shot, especially given our qb situation and the loss of grant. Hope for the best but expect the worst. my guess is 4 or 5 wins. We MIGHT beat teams like msu and PSU but odds are we won't beat either and odds are we'll break even at best with illinois, Indiana et al.

Blitz you and I are seeing "eye-to-eye" a lot recently but I'm just barely getting us to 4 wins right now, let alone 6, DUE TO our injury/depth situations:

Mich - no
Illinois - can Ash get us off the 4-year Homecoming debacle we've been mired in? I say YES!
@ Minny - no, not on the road.
IU - YES, we get this one too!
@ MSU - on the road, we lose, unfortunately (and regardless of their loss to IU)
PSU - nope. Their lines and Barkely get the best of us. Close, though, which hurts even worse.
@ Maryland - not this year. Lose a tough one.

...it would really take some special play - by someone, anyone - to get us to 6 wins IMHO.

If we get to a bowl game this year, we would really have earned it. That said, I think this staff and team can do it. We are a TD away from being 3-0 at home this season

Have to agree with AreYouNUTS. I think the people taking a team like Minnesota for granted are going to be surprised by that game. RU fans might be wise to sign now for a 2-5 finish the rest of the way, and 3-4 would be a no-brainer. Other than the Illinois game, you guys will likely be underdogs every game the rest of the way.

one word consistency..until the team develops it and real quick like not to mention getting a qb good luck making a bowl this year

Valid point.
Don't be afraid to call this out....some shifty folks won't agree.
Even shiftier folks will agree with you and, like you, will also feel it necessary to repeat it several times a day so as to feel good about themselves.

Mom: What did you do today, son?

Son: I publicly insulted a college kid a bunch of times and attempted to insult others for refusing to insult him. Aren't you proud of me, mom?

It is possible...I think we're going to see more teams on the Iowa level than top 10 after Saturday...if say we make 4 trips to the end zone and get even a FG instead of going home empty handed it is possible.

I believe our coaching staff will continue to make adjustments that will keep us competitive in the final six games of the season....every team has injuries and banged up players....will a little luck we can win 3 home games (Loud Rutgers fans can make a difference) and find a way to steal one on the road because there always seems to be one game each season where the defense scores and comes up big.

The first half of that season Teel was playing a bit like Laviano is now. The second half he played out of his mind, and he had Underwood, Britt, and Brown to throw to.

And it all started because a kick hit the uprights. Make that kick and none of it -- NONE of it -- would have mattered.

Wasn't it like two or three kicks that hit the upright that game? Maybe two that hit and one that missed altogether.

Everyone is freaking out but I highly doubt there was really anyone who predicted us to be anything but 2-3 thus far .. Who had us beating #14 Washington, #2 OSU, or (what was in the preseason) #10 Iowa? Please raise your hand. We are performing right where we were expected. Except we had a good showing against Iowa and for most of the first half of OSU. Let's see what happens now.
