I'm starting to believe the push for a new regime just isn't going to take hold over the next few weeks so the people who think that Flood deserves his "fifth year" will likely get to see their wish come to fruition. But I said it after the UCONN loss in 2013 when we were told if he beats USF he stays and after the Michigan State throttling last year when we were told if he beats Maryland (or even loses and wins a bowl game) he likely stays. And here we are, just as I predicted, having the same discussions in 2015 as to whether or not this is the man that should be the head of our football program.
Now, there will always be people who want him gone, people who never wanted him hired in the first place. Those people always bitch, even when things are good. Then there are people who defend the coach at all costs. These are usually the "old guard" alumni and bigger boosters (in my opinion) who know the man personally and think he's just a swell guy. These are likely the same people who were responsible for Terry Shea getting his fifth year when he clearly didn't deserve one. But I think the majority of folks on here fall somewhere in the middle...I know I do. As of July 2015 I was 100% in KF's camp and thought he could be here for 10 years in this job. Not so much based on the bowl win over UNC (I'm never impressed beating a basketball school in football no matter how much perceived "talent" they have) but just on the fact that he was seven games over .500 in three full seasons as head coach. I even blamed the media of sensationalizing the arrests and the initial "email" report. However, when the news about the cloak and dagger Princeton stuff, the correcting Barnwell's homework, etc. came out I was thoroughly disgusted. Even still, I said "let's see how the season plays out on the field". I will admit it, if we were 7-2 or even just competitive every week I could overlook the off the field stuff. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite, I don't know? But I know when you are failing miserably both ON THE FIELD and now OFF THE FIELD, I mean what's really left? And I'm not even talking about recruiting. I'm talking about bringing shame and embarrassment on the university that thousands of us graduated from.
I'm going to stop beating the drum of change as it is all falling on deaf ears. But I'm going to say it, now for the third November in a row (it's like it's becoming tradition sadly)...we will be having these exact same discussions about Flood needing to go (again) in November of 2016.
