Well September is still shore season, maybe we get you to BAR Anticipation, have some shots, do a little hogging with the chubby chicks and you can eat all the east coast clam you want

It say's 'with tongue'. Are they talking about a real cow's tongue? Other than that the food on the menu looks fantastic. I'm bookmarking it now.

Yep. Real cows tongue sliced thin. Its a Jewish deli thing. Im not a fan.
Go for pastrami or corned beef. The sandwiches are huge. Ginormous. Enough to feed 3-4 people.
 
Some pizza parlors make philly cheese steaks stop in and try one. Large cheese steak, w/ white American, mush, peppers and onions; mayo and ketchup. I have a feeling we're going to give you a game.

Small clarification. All the sluts on jersey shore were from Ny. Don't get me wrong, Nj girls can look just like them but they are less annoying and not quite as dumb.

Does anyone in this state still call a pizza a pizza pie? Like, insist that's the only expression for it?

Not the only expression for it, but the term is pretty commonly used.

"Getting pizza for dinner... one pie or two?"
"Want to get Chinese tonight, or just grab a pie?"
"Getting pizza for the party... how many pies should we order?"
"If we're all ordering slices, why not just get a whole pie?"
"I'd like to order a large pie - half plain, half pepperoni."
etc, etc....

Right right, that usage is inarguable. But is that a strictly local usage of the word "pie" like the OP is saying? If you called a Spokane pizza joint and asked for two large pies with pepperoni and olives, they wouldn't have any idea what you meant?

Harold himself will be at the cash register. And don't even THINK about making a second trip to the bread line. That's a no-no. Enjoy. $$$$

try the tongue. I haven't been to Harold's yet, but love the tongue at Sarge's and Katz's in NYC, I personally like it more than pastrami or corned beef. I've heard good things about Harold's.

The way that Jewish deli make it, its real beef tongue corned like corned beef, thin sliced and tender/fatty.

Most authentic Mexican spots make a good grilled tongue too for tacos and other similar dishes.
 
Not to nitpick, but we have a slight differentiation between pizza pies and tomato pies. A basic pizza pie is a cheese and tomato sauce mix with a thin crust. What you may know as the 'Chicago' style thick crust is known as Sicilian pizza here. Tomato pies have very thin crust and are heavier on the tomato sauce and lighter on the cheese component. I live in the Trenton area and we claim to have some of the best pizza and tomato pies in the state.

We live in Robbinsville... Can walk to Papas and to Delorenzos. Tomato pie is very good but I much prefer the cheese pizza I grew up with in Queens.

I disagree. Our Sicilian is a thicker version of a normal pie. Chicago deep dish is another category.

You need to get yourself a "sloppy joe." The rest of the country doesn't understand how to make one properly. My favorite deli for the Joe was the Stuyvesant Deli on Morris Ave in Union, but they closed down. I'm sure the folks here could help you with a recommendation for another place.
 
In Mercer County they only call it Tomato Pie.

Chicago Deep Dish Pizza is totally different form Sicilian Pizza. It is usually made with Semolina instead of white flour thus the crust has a distinctive yellow color. The Pizza is made in reverse order from the Pizza we know - as the cheese, veggies and meats are placed on the bottom with large amounts of sauce on top because the pizza is so thick i(much thicker than the Sicilian Pie) it takes longer to cook and thus the cheese would burn if made the traditional way. Also the Deep Dish Pizza is round vs the square Sicilian pie and Deep Dish uses a chunky tomato sauce which is not usually used in NJ nor is it used in most of Italy.

Deep Dish is usually eaten with a knife and fork as it is very sloppy to eat as the "fillings" under the sauce fall out if you try to eat it the way we eat traditional pizza.

That's not true. I can get a plain cheese pie (or one with extra toppings) at any pizza place other than Papas & Delorenzos. Those 2 places ONLY have Tomato pies.

yes, you can get Tomato Pies but you can also get regular pizza, i.e. lots of cheese and sauce, from everywhere else. I am well aware of Delorenzos menu and Papa's as I live across the street from them and frequent them both and I never said those places were the only ones that served Tomato pies I said you can only get Tomato Pies at those places i.e. no regular cheese pizzas at either place

for example, Massimo's in Robbinsville has a very extensive PIZZA menu including personal pies that are made in a wood burning oven and have the Italian DOC status which means their wood burning pies are made in 90 seconds or less at 1000 degrees.

You'd have to take up "inarguable" with @Alaska_Dawg.

It's not a local usage, but it's more of a regional one... common in NY/NJ, but also some other places. It's probably a safe bet if you've never been somewhere where a pizza is also called a "pie", you've never had good pizza.
 
I wish the game could be cancelled because of excessive heat.Playing Washington at the start of the season isn't helpful to Rutgers at all while their fans will be having a great time in NJ.

Detroit style--yup its a real thing. Crust similar to NY/NJ Sicilian but must have the cheese pushed all the way to the edge so there is a "burnt cheese" layer at the crust. In addition the cheese is not mozz--it's brick cheese, sometimes mixed with cheddar
