With the number of close losses in the toughest conference, would we get a look???

Best case scenario is to win our two home games, split the two on the road and win one game in the tournament. Finish .500 for the year and then we can start thinking post season play in 2020.

Really is a shame though. I understand the construction of the tournaments but there are about 100 schools that make the NCAA/NIT field. We are absolutely one of the top 100 teams in the nation right now.

12-14 now, win last 4 and two in the B1G Tourney.

Finish 18-15 and 9-11 in B1G.

Last year Boston College got in at 19-16 and they were 7-11 in ACC
Might as well go all the way and win the final two in that case, put the 27 year drought to bed

This would do it. I don't see it happening, but we would deserve an NIT bid with this. We'd be in the 7-10 range and have to beat one of the top three in the tournament to get that 2nd win.

Or... we need a time machine. Go back and beat Fordham, Illinois, and Iowa. Then we'd be 15-11 now (7-9 B1G). Win three of last four (lose at Iowa) to finish 18-12 regular season (10-10). Win our first B1G game to get win #19 in the toughest league in the nation and we'd be in.

Yep, Fordham, Illinois and Iowa are the 3 that got away. But, you are what your record says.and there are a bunch of teams probably thinking the same thing.

85th maybe or 84th, depends who you ask....the people i REFERENCED actually thought better of us after our 2 losses.

Well, if I understand how the RU screw works, if Rutgers wins the B1G Tournament then they'd get an auto bid to the NIT. Is that how it works?

We need to be someone that pays and/or sleeps with the right people

Teams with losing records don't get invited to the NIT.In fact the NIT has become far more difficult to get a invite with most of the slots given to teams not selected by the NCAA or teams coming in second for league championships.

No. Rutgers makes it to the B1G finals and has a 10 point lead with 10 minutes left against Purdue with Carsen Edwards having the flu. It is a 75 degree day in Chicago and all of a sudden the ice rink under the floor melts and condensation gets on the court. the game gets stopped. It can't get finished until Monday because REO Speedwagon and Styx have a concert Sunday night. By Monday Edwards is healthy and they come back and beat us by 3.

I will disagree and say if this Rutgers team finds a way to finish .500, there’s a shot we get in. We really needed that Iowa game but let’s see what happens.

I know about the teams who were denied last year but each season is different. The big 10 is a brutal conference. Last night we just didn’t have a player to cover Winston. I wish pikiell would have tested Mathis on him. He’s just really good. I’m wondering if he’s an NBA player or if he’s just too small?

If we can somehow get a talented 3 4 or 5 who can score with the remaining Scholorship, we may have a chance for bid to the dance. An NIT bid will likely be in our cards though. We continue to make major steps under Pike regime.

I don’t know why but I was expecting us to win last night? Here we are playing #10 and 21-5 MSU on the road, 16 point underdogs and none of that mattered to me. I felt like we had the ability to get it done. Winston was a magician behind one good ball screen, they were 18-20 from the FT line and geo was shut down in the second half.

I think our kids will dig deep and blow Minnesota out of the building on Sunday and we get one more surprise win like at Indiana to finish .500 after beating psu.

We really want the #9 seed this year.

-It gives us that bye

-The first game would be against either Illinois, Ohio State, or Minnesota, winnable games

-we really are hoping for a little run from Michigan State here, if they get the #1 seed, I don't think they have incentive to make a long Big Ten tournament run so despite the loss yesterday I think its winnable

-If we get bye that we avoid both Purdue and Michigan in the semi-finals and play the winner of Maryland/Wisconsin

Imagine we are in the finals playing to cut the nets? Listen there is very little chance but the standings are shaking up a little nicely for us

One of the biggest factors will be how many small conference regular season winners win their conf tournament for an AQ in the NCAA's rather than taking an at large away from the NIT.
Remember that a 19-13 (8-10) Maryland got snubbed by the NIT last season (and declined a CBI bid).

Rutgers should get into the NIT and will be a nightmare matchup for whoever you face. Rutgers and Illinois are legitimately two teams that could win multiple NIT games, not to mention multiple B1G tournament games.

Correct..

Last year there were 12 automatic NIT bids - Conference regular season champs who did not win their Conference tourney.

IMO, giving them an automatic NIT spot is stupid....rewarding a team that underachieves. Why should they be guaranteed a spot?

An 18 game conference season is a way better method of determining the best team than a single-loss tournament.

The Atlantic Sun conference would vastly prefer Lipscomb make the tournament (where they'd be a 12 seed and a popular upset pick) and not have North Florida pull an upset and win the conference tournament to get there (where they'd be a 16 seed in Dayton, probably).

Giving Lipscomb an NIT bid in the latter scenario is the least that could happen. I like it too.
