at 8-3 we are still out

with a win vs Lafayette and Caldwell to get to 10-3 do we get in?

then we play Nebraska on the road. If we pull that one out to get to 11-3 does that do it?

then we get PSU who had a big win this past weekend and will be a tough game.

If we hadn't lost to SBA we'd have gotten votes. If we win the next then we might get some attention.

Edit: should say "win the next three"

the win over SHU may well fade with them now playing with the two best players down. Their game really looked pretty weak in the second half. Soft bench.
Cannot imagine us even making the ORV list unless we somehow start racking up wins against BIG teams with winning records.

To actually make top 25, not just garner some votes, first factor in that the polls come out each Monday.
Therefore, to answer your question, we would need to win our next 5 to make top 25 in the 1/13 poll. We have 2 games that final week and just being 11-3 for the 1/6 poll won't get us into the top 25 (but we'll probably be middle of pack in ORVs if 11-3 at that time).

is this post for real...why would RU be ranked at 8-3

I think if we win our next 3 which includes Nebraska on the road, you might see a couple of votes at best. We have a weak OOC schedule and our best wins are SFA, a down Wisconsin team, and an undermanned Seton Hall at home. We have a ways to go for a ranking but at least we are playing much better the past two games.

everytime this thread pops up bad things happen......
Yeah, we're quite a bit away from legit top 25. But our kenpom is now #59 and sagarin is #53. I'd be over the moon thrilled if we finished the year at those same places as that equates to NIT team. Goal #1 remains finishing over . 500 this year (and no, my expectations aren't too low, we haven't been over . 500 in 13 years!).

We only have 2 good (not great) wins so far, Wisconsin (5-5) and Seton Hall (6-4), and neither of those teams appear to be Quad 1 wins (although SH was ranked going into our game, they are plummeting, and likely to drop out of the rankings).

Lafayette and Caldwell are not going to get us into the top 25.

We'll have to make some noise in the Big Ten, including some road wins, in order to get ranked. For now, I am not worrying about ranking. I am just planning to enjoy the season, and hope for post-season.

Ill give an answer

1-1/10-3....no votes
2-1/11-3....maybe a few votes
4-1/13-3....a lot of votes...but short of top 25 (27-29 range)
6-1/15-3....ranked 22nd
8-1/17-3....ranked 15th

I’m so not worried about this ...it’s not realistic for us ...but sort of how it would play out

The big overachieve goal is hearing our school named between 6-7 pm on March 15, 2020

nailed it

A lot more.

At this point I think we would need to win all the way through the @Iowa game (putting us at 15-3 (16-3 if you count Caldwell)) before we would sneak into the top 25.

Shack nails it.

Do you think we got ripped off by not even getting a single vote for top 25 after beating both Wisconsin and Seton Hall?

Even Arkansas got 1 vote and they have beat nobodies and just lost to W Kentucky...

Our OC schedule was awful and we lost to Pitt and St. Bonnies. A few more wins and we warrant a vote. Right now, its not warranted whatsoever.

We definitely do not deserve votes yet. We aren’t consistent enough and still lack enough offense.

We do however play a deep bench and teams that do that get better through the year.

Win the next four (Lafayette, Caldwell, @Nebraska, PSU) and maybe we'll get a few votes at 12-3 (3-1). Win @Illinois, too, to go to 13-3 (4-1), and I'd say we'd be in the receiving-single-digit-votes world.

Yeah, I think if we win those four games, we will start to get votes, as the @Nebraska and especially the home/PSU wins would be viewed as pretty solid (Nebby just beat Purdue at home, and PSU is top 30-ish in KenPom and NET).

The answer is no and Rutgers must defeat Penn State because its a home game.

I think your numbers are spot on. Just adding in the dates for the Mondays when the new rankings would come out, and which games would have been included:

12/23: 1-1/9-3.....no votes (vs. Lafayette)
12/30: 1-1/10-3....no votes (vs. Caldwell)
01/06: 2-1/11-3....maybe a few votes (@Nebraska)
01/13: 4-1/13-3....a lot of votes...but short of top 25 (27-29 range) (vs. PSU, @Illinois)
01/20: 6-1/15-3....ranked 22nd (vs. Indiana, vs. Minnesota)
01/27: 8-1/17-3....ranked 15th (@Iowa, vs. Nebraska)

We are not a top 25 team and probably a top 50-65 team, which is a great accomplishment for this team. We have to start winning road games before we get ranked or getting any votes , plus we have to lock down the RAC and try to go undefeated. This year is just a crazy year in college basketball. For the first time since forever there is not a legitimate top 5 or top 10 team as the teams slated there are there by default and not because of what they did. In past years , there was definitely a dividing line between top 25-30 and then 30 -60 was a coin toss. This year , I truly believe there is the weakest top 10 ever, then from 11 to 75 it is a coin toss depending on whether teams are home or away . The Big 10 is now 13-0 at home , with losses by the Number 3 team (Ohio State) , the Number 4 team ( Michigan ) and the Number 6 team ( Maryland) and all 3 lost to unranked teams. That is probably unprecedented. This is the wackiest year ever so far. In past years a top 5 or top 10 team would almost never lose to an unranked team , then add in Evansville over Kentucky and SFA over Duke and the results are mind boggling.
What I do like is that since Akwasi has been inserted into the starting lineup we are 2-0 and our offense has looked better. I truly believe that Akwasi and Ron are the best set of forwards we have had here in many many moons, and if they can stay within 15 feet and operate , either shoot or drive and get fouled and occasionally hit the 3, and we play inside out with Myles , our offense and shooting will continue to be very very good from 2 point range and we can compete with any one in the country. We just played our best offensive game of the year, which came in our 11 th game so I presume we will continue to get better offensively and more efficient. We are already playing outstanding defense which hopefully will be brought every night. The turnaround in the last week on the fortunes and future of this team are fantastic. Hoping to savor and enjoy the ride.

To receive votes, you have to start winning games like Lafayette, who is a very dangerous opponent that has nothing to lose.

I don't know what the Top 25 will look like for Top 25 votes each week, but if we can win the next game and look good doing so, I'll take that right now.

The rest of the B1G is also wondering out loud about whether Penn State is legit, how good is Purdue, whether Michigan State will make their annual run in mid January into February with an extended 9 wins out of 10 or 11 games, etc. There is the question of Minnesota's guards looking like All-Americans one day vs Ohio State and going a combined 1-20 from the floor less than a week or so ago.

The key isn't whether RU should be ranked it's really whether the youthful roster with some Top 150 kids at Northwestern, pulls off what RU did last year and wins 6 to 7 B1G games and makes life miserable for the rest of the league.....and if Nebraska's last 2 games (OT loss at Indiana and blitzing Purdue), are legitimate turning points.

IF, Northwestern develops as I expect them to do and Nebraska plays hard, this becomes far and away the best league by a landslide. It will become a week to week survival league, not a league concerned about Top 25 votes....it literally will be 1st half to 2nd half adjustments and game to game improvements from Jacob Young, Mulcahy, Doucoure and Carter and can the bench become reliable.

100% agree we are not a top 25 team or even close, but 6-7 B1G wins this year would be a major disappointment.

I think it's a combination of weaker top 25/too many 1 and done hurting chemistry, as well as better players are going to non blue bloods P5s/mid to low majors improving chemistry of those teams. Not much parity between 1-50 like years past distinct difference. It does seem defense and 4 year players are the way to go like Virginia/Texas Tech final game and Auburn/MSU final four last year, Izzo has tried to stay away from the 1 and done, recently. Even 2 or 3 year players are better.

Very good analysis.Winning on the road would be a eye opener based on the dominance of the home court so far.My season goal is a winning record which will require at least six more B1G wins assuming wins in the next two out of conference games. It won't be easy to achieve unless Rutgers gets more scoring from the bench against tougher competition.
