I was living away from NJ last year and it was the first year in a while I didn't get to go to any games. What happened? We used to be really good. And now we're really really bad. I know the system is old and Stringer needs to go, but this is just pathetic. Makes me sad.

It's kind of like what happened at Seton Hall with Phyllis Mangina. They waited too long. But they have the right coach now. There are other examples too.

That is what surprised me. Hobbs was the one who let her go at Seton Hall and I thought he would be the one to let CVS go which has to happen and fast. We have to be one of the worst teams in the country

There was no way he could get rid of her- the fallout would be huge. Additionally, changing coaches in 3 of the sports with the highest payroll in 1 year probably isn't a good idea. Interesting to see what Hobbs does after this year.

Looking at the schedule, there is a very good chance that they might not win a game the rest of the year.

I am still baffled we could lose to Elon, Princeton, and Chatt even with the players we have. These players should be better than those teams? I mean a few of them were players others wanted right?

After this season there will be no fallout getting rid of Stringer. Its clear the game has passed her. This is her program and she let it fall off a cliff. She should bow out gracefully, but I doubt that happens. It's time to hire Seton Hall's coach.

Please explain.
I would like to know what that means too.

I truly feel so bad for the players, fans and CVS and her staff.

CVS has been a major part of so many fantastic RU memories. I remember the first time we beat almighty UCONN (the Geno years) and it was the start of a true rivalry.

My wish would be that CVS hits the win milestone and then rides off into the sunset on a high. But the kids and the program must come first.

Just have to take it one game at a time. Go RU!

I think she has other things on her mind that are distracting her from focusing on basketball. Demons gonna get you.
You and the other RAC have nothing but bad things to say about this program. At least say something reasonably factual. We've lived through nearly 25 years of bad men's basketball and now we've got something to be happy about there. Either give WBB a break or enjoy MBB. Life's too short to live it your way.

While I have nothing but respect for him, he is a Seton Hall alum. So, not sure if he is planning on going anywhere else. While not P5, the Big East, American and A10 enjoy some unique advantages - scheduling is part of it - so schools in those conferences might be an acceptable place to stay, especially for an alum.

If you need to know email me at lawnmanbmls@comcast.net
I won't e-mail you to find out, but feel if your going to post something on this board you should give an explanation on this board when asked.
If it's a secret only certain people are entitled to know, don't imply anything where those not entitled to know will see your accusation of what's wrong.
Hopefully it's not a rumor you heard and that's why you didn't share but implied something personally wrong is the problem

Yeah, what does that mean?

CVS says she cannot recruit without a contract (to show the high school recruits). Well, at some time in the near future she will retire and that means "no contract and no recruits". I would think the right strategy is to hire a young and upcoming coach now, while the flow of recruits has reached the bottom?

I dont think anyone including the coaching staff expected to be winless. The talent in the last few years has not been what we are used to. Injuries have also hurt the team. Someone mentioned in another post ( i think Nj.com) that Tyler looked at the team and knew this wasn't going to be a good year and decided play with the talented group of transfers.

I like the team next year on paper with or without Tyler and think Stringer should be given the chance to coach that team.

this..eventually no one will come but she is going to retire, her age is an issue among recruits, not the contract..do we give her a 10 year contract

Think that quote was taken when Vivian was negotiating with Pernetti and there wasn't an agreement in site.
When she signed the extension with Hermann it was for 4 years and not up till April of 2018.
Could be your putting what was said in the past into what's going on now without providing proof that what you're claiming is true today.
Or could be I haven't heard what you heard . If so please provide me with the information you have so I can be an informed RU WBB Fan .

I believe one of the writer wrote that Julies contract was essentially a year to year contract.

"Even though Stringer has two years remaining on a four-year contract signed following the 2013-14 campaign , there's a clause that could see Rutgers escape a percentage of the $1.4 million she's owed if she was dismissed. Essentially, the contract is viewed as a series of one year rollovers." www.nj.com/articles/18558048/rutgers_working_on_4-year_contract_extension_with.amp?client=ms-android-att-us

Fully guaranteed the first two years, 35% of total owed if fired after 2nd year completed. 50% if terminated with one year left or during that last year.
Year to year, from my understanding, is after the second season is completed Stringer and the RU AD would get together and discuss if she would return. Same with after the third season.
Just like every HC talks to their AD after the season to discuss the future of the program and personal involved.

All I want to find out is if what was claimed CVS said is something current, or is it like I posted: said when negotiations with Pernetti weren't looking good.

Age is indeed an issue, although it doesn't seem to be stopping Gary Blair all that much (or Jim Foster at his level) - they are the 2 other HC's I know of that are north of 65. Age would matter less to a recruit if there was better success over the last few / current year, I suspect.

All of that said, age is just one of a bunch of factors (as is contract status, as is on-court success, as is facilities, as is style of play, as is "etc.") affecting how Rutgers (or any other team) succeeds at recruiting. To harp on one (or another) is fine for a fan, I suppose, but isn't necessarily accurate in reflecting the whole picture.

How does a program go from such an extended period of high heights to low low's with the same coach? The woman is a legend in ladies hoops, so I really cant understand the dropoff. You would think someone like that would see she just isn't getting it done and step aside for her own pride if nothing else. Its a shame as the womens team has been one of the few consistent bright spots in RU sports for awhile.

Thankfully it doesn't take too long to create a winning basketball team. The right coach can turn this program around quickly.

I noticed that Duke'sJoanne P. McCallie was on her feet, barking and directing traffic for the entire game. While the RU staff showed a lack of energy and were just chatting among themselves. It look to me that the RU staff had checked out pretty early in the game. Hobbs was sitting across from the RU bench. I wonder if he was aware of the difference in energy between Duke and RU?

If true that's just embarrassing

Thank you for your post, Rizwranll. It is comforting to know that there just might be a couple...only a couple.. of other Rutgers fans who understand that the kids and program must come first.

TY. It is amazing how people forget that. These kids get up super early for practice. They amazingly do all that is required to be on a college team while also putting in the necessary time to be successful full-time students. I really don't know if I could have done it when I was at RU.

would Hobbs try and lure Tony Bozella over to RU? Seems like Bozella is doing a pretty good job there although this year they lost alot and are rebuilding and they crushed RU last year...in fact that game infuriated me that 3 WNBA players and RU looked like a high school team losing by 30..

Please. This is big business not a summer rec league.

Recruiting top tier players is the cure all for programs that are failing.Getting them to come to Rutgers is the difficult part because of the competition .
