If I post a reply on a thread and it has grammatical/spelling errors, extra spaces, etc. I simply MUST go back and edit it. I'm guessing a majority of people just let stuff like that go. But I can't. Am I strange? Or secretly in the majority? Just curious. :D

And I love how they've made editing even easier/faster on rivals. I wish I could do the same with emails, but once sent, d'oh! Too late. Need to live with my mistakes. Sigh.

It must be that you're strange because most people here will tell you they're never wrong or make a mistake.

I generally try to. Much easier to do when I am on a computer vs my iPhone though. Autocorrect can be a bitch.

All the time.I probably miss things even when I edit.

If I proofed more/better I'd edit after the fact less.

I usually do since I am a lousy typist. Then again, I text in complete sentences which I blame on my 12 years of Catholic school.

Need to edit the original post. "But I can't" is a phrase, not a sentence. Should have been ", but I can't."

Yea I just started posting on this board but a long time lurker. I proof read and edit my posts because I don't want to look like an idiot in my first hundred posts. Maybe when I get into the thousands I'll just post whatever without caring because I'll be too old and be busy screaming at the kids on my lawn.

Dirty RU, The age of the editor is over. Proofreaders were fired years ago at publishing companies. Read anything by a major publisher and you'll find mistakes. Hit spelling check and then let it go. That's it.

As an ESL teacher in Hong Kong, I proofread everything before I post it. After I do post it, I reread it to make sure I haven't missed anything. If I did, then I go back and edit, just out of force of habit.

If you don't proof and edit there is sure to be someone to point out your mistake, so there really is no need to do it yourself.
I agree that on the computer it's easier to do. When I'm at work and don't have my reading glasses I just hope for the best.
Also agree that auto correct sucks.

Don't need to - I never make misteaks. Actually, I'm a nut about not making mistakes in the first place (the writing version of entropy, i.e., it takes less energy to not make a mistake than it does to correct the mistake - of course, it takes no energy to ignore the mistake), so I'll usually do a quick proof before I post. Oddly, though, I hate spell/grammar check on any system, so I turn them off and hope that my Rainman-like ability to spot errors suffices. On the off chance I miss something and see an error later, I usually fix it. Also, while I like the new editor, I don't like that the system doesn't note that the post has been edited, like the old site used to.

I'm in the club. If someone quotes me before I discover the mistake(s), I leave the mistakes in.

I do the same.

I was an honors English student, I proof read everything and cringe when I see I missed something and I've been quoted with the error still in place. I have to force myself not to point out and correct all of the bad and incorrect grammar I read in these threads every day.

I was in the Honors English class in the last semester of my senior year in high school. The teacher,Mr. Elisha Fisha(actually Fischer) was very dramatic in all of his presentations and would bring his fist down, forcefully,on an empty desk at the front of the room, when emphasizing a point.SO,one day ,before class, all of the screws that held that desk together got accidentally removed. The desk was reassembled like a house of cards.Mr. Fischer enters the classroom and works his way to that empty desk and in making a point slams his fist down and shatters the desk.It was so long ago that I truly don't recall his response but the class had a heck of a good time.

I did not know that.

I also am psychologically compelled to proof read and correct before sending out a post or email.
I don't want people to think I'm stupid or careless.

I usually try to read things over before I post or send. If I make a mistake I try to edit as fast as possible in case the post gets quoted.

I mostly rely on people's superior reading skills instead of my inferior editorial skills

No I will too esp if it effects the context....also depends on how tired I am.

I always proof read and edit every post that I do. Maybe it's because I did so poorly in English classes in school and never was able to attend college.
By the way, I really dislike all the texting shortcuts that are used here. I was always taught to write so that everyone is able to read it.
Maybe that's also why I write (cursive) and print very clearly.
