Why didn't we try the field goad just before the half?

What a bonehead decision. The score was 0-0 and we had 4th down on the 3 and tried for the touchdown. We took points off the board. I don't know if Ash made that decision but I felt that was a horrible decision. Instead we allow Iowa to go down and score with 34 seconds left on the clock.

Firsnthreenyears I read here about Flood's conservative nature and how we should be like other teams and play aggressive football. Now he's a moron for doing just that. Pitch th ball and you score.

Three yards to go, scoreless game, our offense has trouble scoring against average or better defenses. In this situation you have to take the 3 points for the lead.

this wasnt a shootout game so its not about being aggressive...its a limited offense in a tie game, I dont see how Flood applies to this situation because we had horrific defense under him. RU did absolutely nothing on its first three down so why would they think it would change. Not having a qb able to throw a 3 yard pass is a huge issue and thats why you take the points, go up 3-0 and maybe they dont get that td there at the end.

Ash was returning the favor. Iowa also passed on a make able FG.

Context is everything in this case. When points are going to be hard to come by you ALWAYS take them if they are there.

Not so sure that really wasn't his thinking at the time. Iowa didn't kick the fg so even if we miss on 4th down, it's still 0-0.
Definitely a case of 2 wrongs make 2 wrongs. Trouble is Iowa can afford it and we can't. Also, terrible job of wasting 2 TOs in non critical parts of the game. Can't blame the offense on those unless everybody forgot the play.

The head coach knew the limitations of the offense and probably thought this might be one of the few opportunities for a touchdown. The logic was right but the decision was wrong.
martin was running through their line like a hot knife through warm butter, he never saw the ball, that was the start of the end, kick the field goal, we are up 3-0 only 2 minutes left in the half, our d was playing great. no we dont kick the field goal we send a poor running qb on a sweep, their ends and tavckels were faster than him, he gave what he had on the play but it wasnt enough, momentom shifted and the marched 99 yds in less than 2 minutes

Ash put his trust in people not capable. The Rutgers staff did draw up a play that proved to be successful with a simple pitch.

I will not fault Laviano for being the best game QB on our roster.

Bad coaching decisions during the entire game cost us a win.....that is the bottom line anyone that does not recognize the is delusional. Our D played great and this team should have been beat if it was not for bad offensive play calling and poor decisions on the offensive side in general.....Oh let me guess let run in the middle on first down yet again......nobody saw that coming.

As I recall one or two of those bonehead timeouts was because the play clock was running out and CL was not paying attention.

3 missed passes by Laviano also cost us the game.

Stop Monday morning quarterbacking it. he played to win
Don't tell people who were screaming bad call before and after to stop Monday morning qbing. Playing to win is playing to win .. Last time I checked 3 zip is winning.

It was a great call on 4th down just Laviano did not execute at all. Would have and should have been an easy td with a pitch

Guys. That play works 99 percent of the time. Great play call.

The pitch was there. Laviano should have gotten rid of it. Easy TD. Big mistake by the kid.

When your qb isn't a great passer, u r going to run.

I understand that the option was there .. However that has to be part of the decision making too. He's not an option qb and looks
Uncomfortable back there with the decision to keep, handoff, or pitch...

you cant trust Laviano, thats why you dont do it...kick the fg...and the play calling the 3 previous plays was atrocious

Right. And I think one was on defense just before Iowa snapped it. Never looks good, but probably seems right at the time. A learning curve of sorts.
