Why no zone d today?

After Iowa was beating us repeatedly on interior passing and back cuts in the first 6 or 7 minutes, I agree that Pike should have adjusted and gone zone for a bit, just to slow down all of that action.

Face it, Iowa shot threes out of their minds today making 12 of them. They haven't shot that well all season. I agree with some posters here that Pike should have mixed up the defenses just to show Iowa a different look. It doesn't mean you stay in zone, but we can play a 2-3, 1-3-1, and trap game. I thought our man to man was out of sorts all game. I also don't know why we didn't pressure them more after a made basket. But then again, our shooting was woeful in this game.

We should have went 2-3 matchup zone for periods of time to mix it up. Their center was setting moving picks and their offense of predicated on movement off the ball with a motion offense. In the Maryland game, we made a switch after a timeout and it threw them off. We should have tired it.
If you know zones you can play out on the shooters and they weren’t doing ouch in the paint except the first half.
So many people in here don’t know basketball—amazes me

We tried it once in the first half. They cut right through it.

The issue was they knew our normal weak side help defense was coming and they weee totally prepared for it and passed and rotated out of it fast

Plus …our press got us out of position to start a bunch of defensive possessions esrly where they had the step and rhythm …

Steve , IMO, adjusted too late on both and they were confident and comfortable already and we never got them enough out of whack to get over the hump on the comeback

All zonr
