PoSU O-line lost a major player.

LT Andrew Nelson will be out this week. Who is he? He was the RT in the Temple game while #73 Paris Palmer “No. 2 JUCO OT” was the LT, as I thought this transfer #73 was going to save the O-line. But as Matt Millen says he was responsible for 5 of the sacks in the Temple game which totally I disagree with, #73 was only responsible for 3 and the then RT Nelson accounted for 1 and Hackenberg was at fault in my book for at least 4 for holding the ball too long. Matt was covering for his shaky QB. All said and done #73 came back in the Buffalo game to show he still did not do his assignment. One he either does not know the playbook or he has lead feet and just does not get to his assignment fast enough. Bottom line PoSU will have trouble running the ball and maintaining good blocks long enough to pass protection. Poor blocking leads to rushed passes, which leads to rattled QB play.... formula for failure.

Our Defense will not play an 8 man coverage like we did with WSU.
We should return to our blitzing-stunting package, as this is a more conventional team. This is good for RU-D. As Hamilton’s loss will not be felt as much. We have some very good players in rotation and if we keep everyone fresh we can pressure their poor O-line play. Please understand PoSU O-line can and did make some good holes but more times than not they missed assignments. Barkley is a good back as we tried to get him. He must be stopped at the line.

Our Passing game without Carroo?
Carroo had only 17% of all catches in WSU game, while Grand had the most with 5. Chris Laviano completed 79.3% to TEN different receivers. It would appear Chris throws to the man who is open. Good sign with Grant, Agudosi, Patton, Arcidiacono, Flanagan and Scarff <(Where did he come from? Good pick up). With safety valves of Goodwin, Bergen out of the backfield our OC is making good calls and spreading the ball around a lot! Carroo loss should not reduce the team productivity. Yes he merits double coverage but WSU did play a lot of man-on-man with him.

Which is the more penalized team?
Yes RU has 20 penalties in 2 games and Ped state has 13 but they average 8.2 years/penalty while we are at 8 yards/penalty. So statistically, Rutgers must produce 56 more yards per game to just break even with the TARS (Team Across the River Sucks, {the is silent}) We lost 2 TD last week due to penalties, we cannot afford any mental errors to be successful this week.

Less is best!
A Rutgers win will be predicated on ball control and 3 turnovers last week cannot happen this week. Let’s call Laviano WSU game like a Nova début. Yes, we all remember Nova passing the ball to his own foot, and throwing the ball past the line of scrimmage. In the excitement of the game $hit happens. Yes Chris’ two turnover did cost us 10 points. That said good QBs learn from their mistake and do not repeat them. We will see how good Chris is Saturday.

Summary: Reduce penalties and turnover we product +14 and +10 points, respectively. This alone against a team that is averaging 18.5 points a game should be enough to win. So if we only reduce errors by one half and put that on top of what we are scoring 48pts/game that would be an even 60 point we put on the state Penn crew! As 2 games are bad statistically foundation, I put in a 50% fudge factor and we still score 30 Points which should be enough to beat this low scoring team.

Rutgers wins 30 to 25. They get an extra TD because they are at home and our green DBs blow a cover.
Go Rutgers, Just play your game and you will win!

Are defensive line is so out matched against them. They are bigger and stronger. Temple defensive line is a lot better then ours. Have to disagree on that.

I'm worried about the intangibles. Our mindset after losing the game and Leonte Caroo last week is an unknown. Also playing a night game at Happy Valley isn't going to be easy as Ohio State can testify to from last year. I'll be there to try and help bring a W home though.

I just don't see a win from this group. You made a valid point going to happen valley is not an easy task. This team is down. If we get the Same qb play we did last week it's gonna be a long game

I agree that RU's defensive plan can be more aggressive against the more conventional PSU offense. However, they are a lot more physical than WSU and we have to see how RU plays run defense...hasn't been tested this year yet. The DL has been mediocre with not a good pass rush this year..that needs to change. Turay has been banged up and he hasn't been a major factor thus far. Offensively, 1st road game for a young QB..he needs to play a lot smarter. He made some good throws but he can't make 2 or 3 bonehead type plays (throwing falling backward or fumbling the ball) like a young Nova. Not sure RU will be able to effectively run the ball. Add in all the controversy and i'm not sure this team will be in the proper mindset to pull an upset. I see PSU by a TD 24 - 17.

As always I hope Rutgers comes away with a win. I just don't see it with this unit.

Biggest issue is the mind set of the team after all the recent noise.

As far as our d-line - we do not have to drop as many players into pass coverage as we did against WAZZU and can rush/blitz linebackers. Should be able to put pressure on the Hack

I think we can run the ball against you as our run blocking has not been the issue. If you put eight in the box then it will be interesting to see if our OL can buy Hack enough time. The OL did switch to a zone blocking scheme last week, which was a much needed adjustment.

As an FYI, three of the best runs of the year have come behind Palmer. His issue has been in pass blocking.

Finally, we just learned that starting LB Brandon Bell and starting CB Grant Haley are starting this weekend, which is huge. Bell was out last week and Haley has yet to play this year.

Summary - 24 more points by reducing penalties and TO's? I might have to start gambling again.

I agree. This will allow walk-on Von Walker to be used as a backup. Troy Reeder came a long way last weekend. In addition, true F John Reid won't have to start. This is the best news that PSU could have expected as Breneman is most likely all done, Wartman-White is out for the year and Nelson was already announced as being out for six weeks.

Whoever gets a running game going and turns it over less gets a win this week

See...I expect them to run on us...what scares me to death is them finding ANY sort of a passing game this week. Remember, not only are we without Hamilton, and maybe Turay at only, what, 75/80%??, but Temple started a D that was top 25 last year with ALL starters back, so, I'm more worried about what Hack can do to our secondary IF they get any pass blocking at all.

Not taking anything away from Temple or their win against us but their D played a lot of putrid offenses in 2014. The good news for Rutgers is that their scheme was more important than their players. Not to mention Franklin and Donovan having no idea how to counter their adjustments.

I think we have a decent chance if we get a lead early and get the crowd quieted a bit. If they score first it's gonna be hard to stem that flow. I've read what other B1G players have said about playing in Happy Valley and many of them say that there is no harder place to play when the crowd gets cranked up. An early lead would also give us confidence and get us focused back on the field. We need an early big play and Janarion Grant can give that to us... again.

This right here is what I don't understand. Why is it that we will blitz psu but couldn't WSU. It makes no sense. Was Rutgers forbidden by some NCAA rule that I'm not aware of that states teams can't blitz WSU. This same defensive scheme they played last year didn't work, so Rossi decides it'll work this year. He had an entire year to come up with a scheme that would work instead we got a retread of last year. But now everyone all say's we will blitz more against a more traditional offense. I call BULLS*IT. His scheme just plain out sucked against WSU. You can blitz a spread offense especially when the quarterback's biggest knocks coming in were lack of decision making and holding onto the ball to long. Rossi is the one holding back this team he has no imagination.

Just play your game and you will win!

And part of "your game" is to not self destruct. Buffalo had at least 6 false starts and 3 chop blocks called against them last week. If that happens to RU they are toast against that defense. A clean game can mean a victory.

Because WSU has a better OL and also had 4-5 WRs sets to spread you out. We don't have the personnel or ability to do that.

If you watched the game we blitzed a total of 6 times in 66 passes and rushed only 4 most times. Result 5 incompletions/ 1 complete. You think Hack holds the ball to long this kid sat back there for 5 to 6 seconds with no pressure then finally threw the ball. Falk's major knocks coming in, his indecision and hold's the ball to long. When Rutgers did blitz those same problems popped up. Problem is our DC decided it would be a good idea to sit back and let their offense matriculate down the field. Think more like this psu offensive coordinator = RU defensive cooridinator a battle of imbeciles.

Washington State has a huge, very capable and very B1G like offensive line.
And tell me again why Portland St. was able to put more pressure on the QB than we were. I think you are over estimating how good their OL is based on our game. Pretty easy to block when you know only 4 guys are coming at you and most times those 4 are bull rushing. I watched the DL in the game they threw some stunts, but was mainly bull rush.

I think my biggest concern , if I was a Rutgers fan would be the matchup of Rutgers interior offensive line against zettel and Johnson. I see that as a huge mismatch that will be very disruptive to an inexperienced qb who will already have enough trouble just trying to function in an extremely hostile environment.

The defensive end, Nassib, had a monster game last week as a result of Buffalo doubling up on Zettle and Johnson. But RU can counteract this with a bunch of dinky short passes, and perhaps can break loose for some significant gains.

I think AJ and AZ are problematic but they are going to be even more problematic with Bell being back.

Really ?
You are talking about the PSU OL . Sure you have watched football games in your life ?

psu was one of the only games we got a good push from the dline. Hamilton out, but psu may have gotten worse.

We did some good things against wsu and moved the ball a lot when we weren't being penalized. I think we'll have our moments on o. If we don't shoot ourselves, I think we got a good shot.

We have enough players in jail to get a legitimate R-U chant going. We're not winning this game.

I'm not doubting you can get pressure. I've said all week that I think you are going to have trouble stopping our running game for four quarters.

It'll be interesting to see how we game plan for the run and if our safeties and lbs are truly upgraded from last year.

Maybe this will be a key to the game.
