This is something that puzzles me. It was mid August when someone from academic support alerted somronr..Julie, Barchi etc? and the basic question is why wasn't any action and leadership shown then. Just a simple..Kyle come to my office etc as we cannot have anything like thing going on. Essentially he got caught red handed and nothing was done which could have prevented the never ending saga that culminated in Barchi's announcement. It just seems very odd.

And yet looking at past history without drawing a direct parallel to incidents but process, TP made a decision as AD to fine and suspend Rice early on and then had the entire situation turn into a witch hunt by Barchi which resulted in TP being the scapegoat. Maybe Julie knew and kicked it upstairs knowing past history etc. So who and where do we point the finger at....follow the dots and make your own conclusion.

Kyle made a big mistake that only got worse because it was left to lie and fester. An initial meeting with Julie or anyone else when alerted to the incorrect contact made by Flood should have resulted in an immediate stern warning that should have included what the consequences would be should it continue. All if this shoud and could have been done in mid Auguust before it hit the media and before any of the unrelated other events occurred.

Only at Rutgers does everyone try to cover their ass on every move they make. Either they have too many fingers in the pie or poor internal legal advice. Sometimes it is better to make a decision at the initial point of contact. Unfortunately Barchi did this when he censured the lacrosse coach two years ago...he at least made an immediate decision ( a knee-jerk one at the time which was poor) but why? Typical administrative CYA. In the lacrosse case he had ample time to review some basic facts. In Flood’s case the info was there in black and white as well as the warning by academic advisement. An action/decision could have been made back in August internally with the case closed and an apology to the instructor who I am sure felt she was under great unecessary pressure.
