Lot of folks here want Flood and staff to go and get another coach. Unless Urban Meyer or Nick Saban or someone similar is coming here, I don't see a reason to make changes. Here is my reasoning:
- recruiting has improved - yes, we don't have any 4/5 stars yet, but a solid class and our 2* QB recruit at a minimum should be a 3*. It seems we are in it for many more kids this year, keep plugging away and they will start coming here.
- Stability in the Coaching Staff - For the last few years we had consistent changes in the assistant coaches ( not counting Schiano's departure ), yes our OC left but he's still here as a consultant when needed but with stability at the OC, DC and other key spots is going to lead to better relationships and better recruiting.
- Getting bigger in the trenches - One thing we learned was size does matter in the BIG and our recruiting and S&C is making sure we are better prepared this year and coming years for the BIG.
We have key new starters at some key positions, esp on O with QB and OL changes, but with the strong running game and having Caroo back is going to lessen the blow.
I for one think we will get better this year. Maybe not in the record but I expect us to be more competitive with the MIch St., Neb, Ohio St. of the world this year.
In conclusion, I like what Flood is doing, bringing in many kids, making early offers, building a pipeline/relationships with key high school coaches, showing that he is learning/growing, stability in the coaching staff, getting bigger in the trenches and recruiting bigger lineman, staff is good at evaluating talent that other see as 2*.
September can't get here quick enough!
