Sorry..know we won't and still predicting about 15 wins.. but I wanted to be the first this year to post that. In years past this would've been a sick joke

to be ranked I think we have to beat Fordham on that Saturday to go 12-0 and we are ranked that Monday heading into the SHU game

id hope that people would be able to understand that getting 3-7 wins after that point wouldnt be an extreme letdown..miami and shu are two of our biggest tests, and they may in fact break our way (not holding my breath on both). but if they did, we would be the most fragile 12-0 based on OOC schedule strength in the nation. a bandwagon fan may look at something like that and think pikiell had lost the team down the stretch

There's s reason to be optimistic. We haven't had that opportunity in forever. But rankings and things don't mean anything right now and I agree it's better to enjoy each win and just keep fighting. The schedule in our league is very tough. We are two wins away from matching last seasons total. We should be there shortly but don't take any game lightly.

Lets say we go 7-0 but still expect to win 15 games, isnt that the same view a voter would have? If I was a voter and said wow 7-0 but they have only played one real game and will only win 15, you probably arent getting my cote....

Getting ranked can be deadly. Some times, a team starts to think differently about itself and it becomes a problem. Just enjoy the ride and let's see how things come out. I like that this team faced some adversity and still was able to grind out a win.

I am genuinely not caught up in the record or the potential rankings as we just need to focus on getting better.

That said, check this out :)

While it may be fun seeing RU ranked highly, RPI rankings this early in the season are completely meaningless. The current top 10 based on those rankings:

1. Creighton
2. Xavier
3. Gonzaga
4. Northern Iowa
5. Villanova
6. UNC-Wilmington
7. Florida
8. Winthrop
9. San Diego State
10. Ohio

Ok, here is another one. Look at the top ten teams in offensive rebounding at this point. I dont think is how it will shape up at year-end. Again good to see us there now, dont get me wrong. If you want any hope of finishing there...you have to start there.

5-0 great start but ranked c'mon we haven't beat a team currently ranked in the top 185 teams. Love our start love what Pickell has done with this team so far, but let's not get crazy. This team has thus far beaten the teams it should have beaten, had a nice road win and has taken care of business, enjoy the ride but let's not set the team up for unrealistic expectations.

I don't think anyone is saying that we are winning the national championship this year! No one is talking about 25 wins either!! They are talking about right now, which is all we can talk about, I know! A right now in which we can discuss the possibility of us being ranked, when was the last time that could happen?? News flash, we play a bunch of weak teams in the beginning of the season for the past 25 years! I don't remember ever beating them all by 20 points!! We are not just winning we are blowing teams out (despite the final scores a couple times), what more can you ask for? And another news flash, the other B1G schools (except some tough games for MSU say, but there are 14 schools) are playing the sisters of the poor too! We rank where we are because right now these players have put in the effort to do what they've done. No one knows what happens when the B1G schedule starts, but in the OOC schedule we are doing great and so we should get to talk about being ranked around the schools that are also doing great/ok against the sisters and losing to top dogs like many say we will.

Ash, Calm down and you should lighten up. I only said we should only focus on tomorrow's game. Even Coach stated that he is not happy that we got a vote in the AP poll. I coached high school for 39 years and trust me some kids lose focus after getting some recognition. I only want the kids to look at the big picture. The season is a long haul and after the last few years we cannot take anyone for granted.

OR, and I know this might seem crazy to some people, it might actually give the kids some CONFIDENCE to beat some "better" teams - confidence which they could really use. I mean, we never sniffed the rankings all last season and how did that go towards keeping the kids "focused" ... only Rutgers basketball fans could find negatives with being ranked or receiving votes.

I am impressed. Coming of the last few years of misery we are actually arguing over the relative merits of possibly being ranked or not. That in itself is good enough for me.

Hey but like we kind of saw with the writer from the LA Times people love an undergod-AND a team that plays incredible defense. Id think we'd get some more love, with another few wins. That makes the Seton Hall game HUGE for recruiting purposes. RU has to get back for being known as THE hoops school in Jersey. Look what Pikell has been doing so far with limited recruiting-imagine if he can land 3-4 4-star+ players PER YEAR (and who can fit into his system) who know how to play D!

If we are not a good shooting team, that means we have a lot more opportunities to grab offensive rebounds.

At least we are taking advantage of those opportunities!
