Women’s Basketball Receiving Votes in Preseason Coaches Poll

Aaahhhh! We've got some coaches that agree that we have a formidable group of ladies here. That's all I really expected at this point.......some consideration.

Maybe I'm asking too much to expect that kind of respect from the media.

Keeping this bit of positive recognition in perspective, we must now be even more hungry, and raise the expectation from just being ranked to being a Top 10 team and going deep in the tourney. Can't be satisfied with receiving a few points.
Gotta swing for the fence!

.

Now we just need ALL of our fan base to get onboard with the positive energy surrounding the team, leading up to game 1,...... instead of being buzz-killers with all this focus on CVS' contract.

This poll is much more in line with my thinking when it comes to 1) Georgia's placement, 2) of course, our inclusion as being recognized, and 3) ohio state being moved back to #25.

This poll also goes to show you how tough the Big Ten Conference has become since the entrance of Md. and RU. The fact that we have been 3rd in such a tough conf. for 2 of the last 3 seasons, is nothing to be ashamed about.

Being a debbie downer here, I never look at getting votes to be in top 25 as great, I only look at being in the top 25 as great.
Guess getting votes is better than not getting any at all, but if not enough to be a top 25 program, votes don';t mean much to me

I hear you Mad. That's not being a downer at all. In the end, polls are just peoples opinions. This poll is just a prediction. As a coach and a player, the polls shouldn't matter one way or the other. Of course, they are going to become aware of what the polls say, but it doesn't mean anything when you face an opponent. The ranking doesn't guarantee any wins.

Like I said before, for the players sake, I prefer we are left out of the polls because it usually drives them to prove the poll voters wrong. It gives them that chip on the shoulder. Start them off in the poll and some young players can't handle it. They get big-headed and find themselves out of the poll within a few weeks.

If I'm coach, I'm always preaching to my team to forget the polls. They don't mean anything.....and here we're talking pre-season poll, at that. It's about what you do on the court that matters. Let those who vote sort out that stuff, while we as a team stay focused on our business.

As a fan, I look at the polls to gage others viewpoints in relation to my own. Also, it is fun for debate purposes. I'm pretty confident in my opinions on this sport because I've studied it for a long time. As a fan, I recognized that RU is a team that is deserving of top 25 consideration this year. The AP poll totally omitted them.

I also like that this poll showed some consideration for Ole Miss.

Receiving votes is not the goal by a long shot. Doesn't mean much. But, as a fan, you want to see your team recognized when they deserve it. Those votes mean that some coaches think RU isTop 25 worthy. As a fan, I can live with that. That's fair. ....................No consideration?????..........with that talent?????........and CVS coaching style and record??..........and the teams recent success???...................
I wasn't buying it.

Some of these posts would lead one to believe the program is a complete dumpster fire that is having losing season after losing season and the coach is a habitual slacker who's just out to steal money and has no input in the operations of the team. Just dragging the program into the ground.

No input, although players continue to talk about the impact of CVS on them as a player and person, the attention to detail that she instills. CVS has RU coming off the tongues of all the biggest names in the women's game, college and pro, for the successful players from her program, her work ethic and level of success over her career, including recent years. How many times did we hear RUWBB mentioned during this WNBA season. We forced tons of praise last season with the long win streak.

Although the team must do better in the postseason, it is clear that this program has been on the rise over the last 4 years and poised to take that next step.

The trolling or hating that goes on with some of these posters seems to go deeper than basketball and that's a shame.

5 Graduate players this year. That is sadly college sports in 2021.
But will hope we have more options on O.
A Guarantes too often had to force a shot during her career as our other players were very limited
until Diamond arrived last year. But even with two scorers there was a lack of O. Giles was not respected and Mack was only on occasion very good. The team chemistry seemed lacking.
(Why did Diamond leave?)
Can this team jell? Will we see early season flubs as they're unfamiliar with each other? Evidence of that is passes to a spot where the passer thought a teammate would go but did not.

You can’t blame the fan base for focusing on the absence of CVS. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think this may be the only situation of its kind in the NCAA. RU pays her a lot because she is a great coach. We need her. The assistant head coach seems like a nice guy, but he doesn’t make the salary that CVS does and it’s almost unfair to shower him with great expectations.

Polls will be challenged right out of the gate tomorrow with the big SC-NCSt battle. Choosing a winner is tough because both are sooooo loaded with talent. But the edge has to go to SC with addition of Cardoso and all the HS All-Americans added on top of a fully returned roster.

Curious to see how the point guard minutes are played for NCState. They may play DJ at the 2 spot to keep her on the floor when Raina Perez runs point guard.

I think we see Staley finally make the adjustment to make her team unstoppable by placing a greater emphasis on shooting the three at a high percentage. Up until the end of last season threes never seemed to be a staple of her offense, her teams have never been great from three, usually having maybe 1 or 2 good shooters. I think this year she has all of her perimeter shooters practicing to be deadly from 3. If they do that, they run away with everything this year.
