midfield
2 options from defense
Jezlyn Jiminez, and Tierney Wiltshire are both capable and may be in the mix
Christy Monroy , if not on deense, will move to center mid
Freshman NNeke Moneme can be a forward , or mid
I think if certain things at forward unfold Colby and another forward may move back to midfield

but essentially the core
Taylor is more of a defensive mid
If we play two center mids Nicole Whitney and Alexa Ferreira will slide in
if we play three mids one of those two slide up to a playmaking center forward
Last year both Tori and Jen were more defensive mids. And with no slight intended Ciara Terrabasso and Gabrielle Provenzano come in highly regarded and are very good with the ball on their feet and strike the ball cleaner
The inherent difference is with the two center mids is they are very very good playmakers with a 25 yard range as scorers. Starting three freshmen and a soph is not without pitfalls but all those core players played on our national teams and are not ordinary freshman

You should stop by Aug 8 for the first scrimmage. We have a lot of girls that can play multiple positions and the initial mix and match should be fun

Nice analysis. Very anxious to see Jiminez, Terrabasso, & Provenzano as well as the initial mix & match. I know that the Coaches believe that some of our Frosh can have an immediate impact. Hope to be there on the 8th.

forwards.....
no idea what to expect
aolani colon
jenna sayers
brianna starr
They certainly all want to play and Mike will give tham that chance

then
Brittany LaPlant
Carina Hendley
Both have something to offer and played a lot as true freshman. But opinion wise neither has great one on one foot skills. Neither can carry with their left foot, or cross so they are on the right. Carina ran in the California State 100 meter and made the top twenty in state. Mike would like that speed to disrupt ball movement from the opponents backs. I think Brittany may have been dealt a bad hand last year. With Madison on the left with no intents of passing she had no idea where to go.It was hard on
Colby also. see these girls , since age 7, were the focal of any attack and had the ball all the time. Now she is asked to stay onside and to try to find a hole in the defense

Make, or break, Amirah is a rare talent. Possessing great dribbling skills, speed , strength, and ability to score .......a lot. But it looks like we might be placing all our bets on her.........a true freshman. But she has started on the age appropriate national teams the last 3 years and thusly is not like freshman
If Alaysia Lane can play the left side, and I see no reason not to, that would mean the defense can not get away with playing 70% of the field. In small 2 minute snippets what is visable is she has excellent one on one skills ( similar to Stephanie Scholz a few years back,) She is strong like Madison but understands how to use her body better. She looks pretty strong and you dont move her off the ball. She likes to lean into you, leverage you without extending her arm, gets 2 yards clear in the first step and the shot is off

Colby drew heat last year for offsides calls but they were not on her ( in my estimation) There would be a hole in the defense, the mid has to see you are going, pass through that slot, before the break. Our mids did not make that pass until they could see her as open..... offsides.
You know what you get with Colby . On set pieces, and corners, she positions well, as an ability to find that loose ball and put it in. But she cannot beat the defender one on one. . And does not possess a hard shot on goal

If one freshman, even Lane, steps up big we are slightly better than last year. If both are the real deal we can have something special.. And again Wiltshire, and Jjiminez and n Mmoneme can play here also. So with a 4-5 girl rotation thats a lot of room for disappointment.
Note I hope for magic this year we rebuilt the backs in 2016
midfielders-- 2017
Next year there are three liquid quick strikers coming in. Colby graduates and some of the above will transfer.
So Mya Daniels is liquid mercury ( you can follow in season at St. Rose Belmar ) Emily Harrigan who played on a u15 national champion and another, and Alicia D'Aoust.
We have 12 freshmen , 9 sophs, and 8 girls coming in next year. This is well beyond young. But the talented young core will be mature in 2018, if not this year

If you have little ladies in your family its a pretty good family atmosphere
As i said only my opinions but if you wish to offer questions feel free

The real big difference the loss to Georgetown and four ties were decided on 5 penlty shots we missed. We had no go to assassin. This year, again my opinion, we have Ferreira ( unusual trait she takes corners and set pieces with both the right and left leg )Jiminez, Lane, Terrabasso, Ali and Ferreira are all superior snipers to last year. That ability is where i place my hope
all done

Question for Ho26rus- Do we have the finishers to find the back of the net? and do you think with as you describe it what looks like much more in the midfield do you think we can control the ball more? I noticed in some of the big games we lost we did not control the midfield at all

well the jury is out on scoring but Ali and Lane, are to me, better strikers then we had been recruiting. We missed on a lot of talented strikers in northern New Jersey
Yeah a good teal of 2015 we played with 4 mids and 2 forwards, Your memories might be of teams having difficulty moving the ball upfield. To me Whitney was not an outside mid in a three girl set. The thing is she was the best mid on the team but needed to be inside.
Last year with 3 mids we gave up the middle frequently to try to put more girls into the attack. If Ali and Lane can get it done I think we go back to the 4 mids
Different this year is Tori and Jen were not great offensive players and rarely took a shot. Ferreira and Whitley can score from the middle of the field.

In the spring we had a lot of forwards out and players were being taken from all over to fill the roll. Mike did play three forwards with Whitley as a playmaking center forward. In the fall that might be the case or Ferreira fills that roll and Whitley moves back to center mid. But even in that case Provenzano, Terrabasso, and Aylmer can and will, positionally, cover more ground than last year
So I think we will score better , play a better mid field defense but we still need to go out and do it.

Would love to see Carina & Brittany blossom. As you said, Carina has top end speed. She needed to develop better soccer sense & improve her skills. Sure coaches have been working with her in those areas. I believe Brittany has the ability & can be a factor.

Never saw Amirah Ali & glad to see that your assessment confirms the hype. I understand that Alaysia Lane on top of being fast is explosive with a nose for the net. Agree with your assessment on Colby.

Anxious to see all of these girls and others, for example Nneka Monome the frosh, in the forward positions. Looks like we may have the ability to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
