They played tight & tentatively once again. Had a great year nonetheless. Best ever for a Women's team. Hats off & kudos to the ladies. On to 2016.
With all due respects NUTS, I was at all their home games, except for FDU. While PSU is a very fine team, so were we. In our first game against them we out played them & won. This was not our team once again, just as it wasn't in the BIG Championship. We were tight & tentative. Girls were committing completely uncharacteristic unforced errors--errant passes, numerous passes out of bounds, etc. I don't know if they won one contested head ball & were losing almost all other 50-50 balls. We were slow, not quick, not aggressive. We were not quick or crisp in our play. We played tight & tentatively. It is one thing to play well & lose to a good team. It is disappointing however to not have played your best & lose. It showed that we have not played in these Big games, whereas PSU has. It will be a learning & growing experience.Actually, I thought that they just lost to a better team, that's all, and that's okay. CONGRATS ladies!
Can't wait to see what the next couple of seasons bring with an influx of offensive talent that should be a huge plus for our D!
We are much quicker & far more skilled than we exhibited. Went to almost all of our home games. We can play with PSU but not when we're tight & tentative. Have to learn to play under the BIG LIGHTS & we will. This was a learning & growing experience. Though our keeper made a great save against UCONN & showed well in the UVA PK game, she was not really tested that much this year. Tend to agree that she has a ways to go to live up to her billing. A terrific young lady, & a real team player. I'm sure she will surpass expectations. The need for more offensive talent and improved team speed seemed to be evident last night. While I thought #11 on PSU was the most talented individual player on the field I was very impressed with how fast some of the PSU women were in beating us to the ball even some time when we appeared to have the angle. The score could have easily been 4-0 and we did not create one really good scoring opportunity all game. I thought our passing at times was really bad and I not sure if that was tentativeness our just our desire to play from the back which allowed PSU to create even more pressure. I have not watched a lot games but I think I have seen Murphy give up more questionable goals than I have seen make outstanding saves. I know there was a bad pass but was she off her line on the first goal or given where the ball was when badly played that is not at all on her? On the second goal she seem slow to react to the shot. Again, I am not trying to be overly critical and as a member of our national U-20 team obviously she is well regarded just not sure I am seeing that individual skill level based the few games I watched.
Fair point on the balance against elite opponents, although we would have had considerably more offense against PSU if we had played the way we could.I agree that the 4 in front of Murphy this year allowed very few to get through so in many games there was little hard work for her. I have no idea how good the PSU goalie is because we did not come close to scoring. I am trying to remember the UConn save since I think I watched a good portion of the game. Against UVA she did what was necessary in PK's but I think PK's in general are a difficult measure of how good your goalie is. Again the team had a great year and getting to the final four is a tremendous accomplishment. While we scored 4 against UConn, we really relied on the D against UVA and PSU. Against elite opponents it would be good if we show a little more balance.
