Just saw Illinois beat UCLA in golf.

Illinois and Maryland are doing great in baseball

Maryland in the Lacrosse finals

Michigan in the softball finals

We have a lot of work to do. Maryland stepped right in and was competing while RU only competed well in a couple of sports.

Pretty hard to argue that we're not in the best athletic conference in the country this year. Unfortunately, we're adding pretty much nothing to that notoriety.

Each of Illinois, Michigan and OSU also have top 13 recruiting classes coming in for womens tennis and top 24 in mens tennis (an area (womens) where our recruiting seems to be headed in the opposite direction). A nice feat for those three schools considering how southern, southwestern and CA schools have a lot of appeal to tennis players.

Illinois is an elite college golf program. They lost yesterday in the semi finals to USC after being seeded first going into the 8 team match play finals. 3rd year in a row they made the final 8.

It's been a great year for the Big Ten. Here are the Directors Cup standings up to this point in conference (8 teams in the top 25):

3. PSU
5. OSU
10. Wisky
14. Minny
18. Michigan (will rise)
19. Maryland
23. MSU
25. Nebraska
40. Iowa
41. Illinois
44. NW
55. Indiana
72. Purdue
83. Rutgers

Pretty embarassing for RU. Julie is the first AD to be truly appalled at the state of our Olympic programs. Hopefully things get better over time.

Funding, facilities, support. All needed across the board in spades.

And people talk about adding sports.

Thats just barely false. Using the Directors Cup rankings as of this week (i.e. including the results of lacrosse finals, but not baseball, softball, track and field, womens rowing, or mens golf) the Big Ten trails the PAC12 on a per team basis. Amazingly we arent even the worst P5 team. WSU is so bad they barely got any points for anything at all. KSU, Kansas, and Pitt are also worse than us as of now. Not sure if either of them has any shot in the remaining sports.

Ironically, 83 is actually a step up. Usually we finish outside the top 100. Although there are still half a dozen sports left to wrap up, so we could in theory fall down there.
