Wrestling roster

Wow, forgot about him. Was injured last seaon, and then reinjured this season. There was a little off the mat talk about him last season as well, but nothing confirmed. Hope he's alright. I don't think you are removed from the roster even for a season ending injury.

If he quit or got kicked off it will give us more ship money for a transfer or juco 197 and HWT next year. Loving next year lineup if everyone bumps a weight . Have some negative thoughts of two true freshman wrestling at 197 and HWT in the BIG 10 Looking to shock the world so two top jucos might do it.

So frustrating if true (yes, he's not listed on the roster), because the kid has so much talent. Just gotta keep upgrading in other areas.

Gentile came to the coaches and said his heart was not in it anymore so he decided to leave. No hard feelings on either side. You can't make kids love it if it is no longer there. The coaches do not want any distractions from achieving their goals of being the best! I feel bad for Ron because he had the talent to be another Ashnault if his heart was in it as he is a great kid so please no bashing him. Life decision and only he knows how he feels and what he is willing to commit.

Stinks, but that's the nature of D1 sports, especially wrestling. Think about Mike Wagner at 197, kid was going to be a stud, but like Gentile, if you don't have the drive, you have to do what's best for you.

Hopefully he is staying in school. Pretty highly regarded recruit. I would assume he frees up more scholarship money than some others.

I don't know how much the shoulder injuries factored but the coaches were very surprised. This kid would have been a 4 year starter and a real potential to be a multiple year AA. He was super talented.

Awful news. Its funny, after all the rumors in the offseason about his attitude, now this happens. Have to wonder who was in the right. I thought that was all behind him after hearing how the coaches were speaking of him earlier this year...it seemed like everyone was expecting big things.

He did everything right in pre season and hid attitude was great. I don't know if the recent shoulder injury affected him but sometimes the switch goes off and a kid says No Mas!

I don't want to say I told ya so, but I told ya so...from everything I heard from coaches that knew him they said he'd never last. And when I posted that about a year ago, I was ripped by some on here. I don't post BS rumors.

Yeah, not exactly unexpected. Writing was on the wall since last year.

Im kind of with Belush on this. 2nd year in a row he missed with injury. That's a long time to keep it together mentally. I wish him the best. I just wouldn't put him in Ash potential when he hasn't wrestled in 2 years.

For what it's worth, "He won't last" isn't a rumor. It's just pure speculation, which doesn't help anything. But yes, you were right.

In my opinion Gentile leaving the team leaves a hole in the lineup a couple of years down the road. A guy I would look into (and I am sure the staff know more than me) is Mohammed Farhan from Clifton. Kid lost last year in Semi Finals of the States 1-0 to Beirdumphel and ended his season 39-2 4th in the state. Clifton wrestles Bergen Catholic tonight. Can't offer him much if any money but worth seeing if he wants an opportunity to wrestle in the Big 10 close to home. Assuming he has the grades and wants to continue wrestling after HS.

Who's to say he won't regret his decision and walk on next season. You never know.

it happens. wrestling is a tough on kids. i do feel with the recent momentum in recruit, we'll be fine and get a wrestler who will be superior to Gentile.
