That got me thinking.

If yelling at the TV could somehow influence the outcome of a game, I wonder which fan base in the B1G would provide the greatest benefit to their team?

And also, which Rutgers fan would be in contention for MVF (Most Valuable Fan)?

When you watch on TV, how much do you yell at the TV, what do you say, and how do the people and animals in your house react to it?

Not only do I yell at the tv but I have physical reactions that I do subconsciously. Like my son pointed out that I raise my fist when a three pointer gets launched, and then I “bring the hammer down” when the shot goes in, and yell “Yesss!” as I do it.

I frequently scare my kids and cat. I told my son while watching the Iowa game "dude - Daddy's gonna suddenly yell during games, and you're gonna have to get used to that".

I was watching the Iowa game at my friends bar in Scranton PA, the one that was at the RAC 2 weeks ago, and had a few mild, but noticeable outbursts throughout. When that preposterous last second shot banked in I yelled so loud that a lady sitting 2 seats down from me knocked her drink off the bar and broke the glass. Thankfully she was totally gracious. I apologized profusely and paid her bill. My friend who owns the bar called me a few days later and said he saw the lady again and said as soon as she walked into the bar that night she shook her head and said, wow, that guy really likes Rutgers. That is why I have hypertension. Go RU.

I’ve had too many Technicals called on me so I tend to watch on TVs isolated from the rest of the house! My wife thought we were getting killed against Iowa because I kept shouting expletives and something about “8 on 5 is BULLSH1T” and other more colorful metaphors about the refs, and their sexual habits concerning what they do to themselves, etc....

Same here about my wife thinking we were losing the Iowa game based on my yelling.

I think a lot of us normally mild mannered people turn into drunken sailors with extremely salty language during RU games (even if we don’t drink during the game!)

During the Iowa game every time Issa made a 3, I mimic’d play by play announcer Kevin Kugler and yelled, “ISSA THIAM!!!”

His name is so much fun to say loudly and with emphasis on the THIAM. All night long after the game, I was walking around the house yelling, “ISSA THIAM!!!” I couldn’t get the smile off of my face!

Watching the games on tv is so much more stressful for than watching at the RAC which is actually fun.

I have worn down my wood floor pacing in the last 2 minutes of close games for years saying Please Please Please

At home I like to stand especially in the second half if it's remotely close game. I can be pretty loud but some other guys in this thread definitely have me beat. for the last Iowa game I was alone in the house and I was yelling all kinds of things pretty much every time we made a 3-pointer in the second half. Fantastic game!

haha my habits are similar to others. Riding the highs and lows of these games. Honestly though for basketball I've become much more animated as the games have grown in relevancy.

For the last Iowa game I was skipping around after each of those Harper and Thiam three's. Yelling "call that time out Iowa!"

For the not so good games I tend to rip into the refs and do a lot of coaching to the players inside the TV screen. Hopefully my 1 year old son picks up on the pointers haha.

As a long suffering fan, I keep looking at the clock if we are ahead (get this over with!) and the opposite if we are losing. My yelling usually is more of "shit, here we go again" or things like it.
The foul shooting is usually the most cause for me to lose it.

Attending so many games over the years has conditioned me to clap really loud and I don’t even realize it .. like during an applause for literally anything anymore my first couple claps are so loud compared to others and I realize it after 2 or 3 but I get some looks. Iowa game I think Geo missed a free throw and I slapped my hands together in frustration and it was so loud and bounced off the corners of my living room that it actually muted my hearing for a few seconds

Guilty of many of the behaviors mentioned above. All this says to me is that we are so desperate for this school, which we all know and love, to get the respect it deserves and we sense that we are on the precipice of getting there and we just can't stand the possibility of a set back. Any missed shot or turnover scares the he'll out of us. Go RU

Even fans/alums of schools with continued success act just like we do.

I often wonder if and what my neighbors in my townhouse complex think every time a game is on. You can add me to the list of those who pace & stand for the game (perhaps nervously & full of energy no doubt). Luckily for me I live alone (perhaps that could be a reason why? LOL).

Also for sure have reactions behind the walls of my own place that I have to control while in the RAC at games. I know for a fact that during the Iowa game they had to hear me through the walls everytime Issa made a 3! Felt so good not only for us to score but for him to put the ball in the hoop like we know he can when he gets going.

I often wonder what I really look like during games when watching on TV but I think I would scare myself if I recorded it.

Everybody in my house thinks I'm crazy from all of the screaming at the TV. It's usually yelling about the refs. But against Iowa it was,

"Thiam for THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I make general comments and am typically pretty subdued. Unless I am watching lacrosse. Then it's a big problem. I've broken two computers in the last 5 years due to shitty refs. My wife keeps a close eye now. Good thing most games are on tv. I won't rip the big screen off the wall.

Funny thread. Have never given it much thought before. Since I no longer have my kids in the house I am free to fully express my feelings while watching RU games. After some reflection on this question I have come to the conclusion that "mother f'##r" is a surprisingly diverse term that I utilize to express my emotions throughout the game (and that I really need to get a handle on my vocabulary) and why I am better off watching games at home.

A very loud high pitched m'fr at a crucial made RU 3 is an expression of my elation.
A low pitched drawn out m'fr usually connotes my displeasure with the shot or turnover from my beloved RU team or a killer shot by the opposition.
A loud, violent and very quick release m'fer which catches the attention of my neighbors is generally directed at a terrible call by a ref.

When I'm watching an away game on TV my most frequent comment yell is GET HIM OUT OF THERE PIKE when one of our guys is playing badly. And I would never yell that at the RAC out of respect to our players

Let’s put this a different way

My wife wasn’t home during the Rutgers - Iowa game ...and my dad, my two teenage sons (whom I coach basketball..and they know I never yell or speak bad to any ref) and me

When Mathis and Harper game down the floor with two consecutive slams to close that game down...the primal came out ...as I yelled ...”f**k you Iowa and refs ...no one taking this game from us”

My kids laughed their ass off after....they get it ...even from their normal mild manner dad
