Youth Football Teams Break Out Dancing During A Game, Will Be At the Screws' Tailgate In 10 Years

I hate that freaking song and dance. Every time they play it my whole team stops what they are doing and starts dancing. Last week, I told them the next kid to do it was done for the day.

I didn't even know it was a thing going on among the kids everywhere, but the parents' reaction on the video is half the fun of watching that video.

vkj, take video of this week's game and post it here. It's your obligation.

I didn't know it was a thing either until halftime of our first game. My son goes to private school where they don't have access to phones, IPAD's etc at lunch or recess, and we only listen to country music at our house. Yet, he somehow not only knew the song but the dance as well. I have three kids on my team that I can't get to stay in huddle, line up properly, or do anything that remotely resembles normal football activity but when that song comes on they are all types of focused and energized.

Now you know how to train the kids--promise them a song and dance after practice. And now you know how to convert them to country--promise them they can dance to the song in the video as long as they learn a line dance from you. Joe Nichols, Easton Corbin, Miranda, etc. ;-)

Vk, I was going to say 'my kids (pee-wees, 8-9 years old) do this too...only they do it in practice, usually right in the middle of a drill or when I'm/ coaches are stressing a key point or a new concept. It usually leads to me redirecting them firmly but fairly while on the inside I'm mentally reenacting the 'Christmas Bonus' scene from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

...I'll never forget 3 years ago when our squad opened up 4-0 and we were playing another team (defending champions/ 3-1) coming off a tough 1-score loss. We were warming up and I was keeping an eye on both teams. Our kids were dancing to 'Ghangnam Style' as we/coaches tried not to lose our cool. The other team was running through their plays in machine-like fashion. I turned to one of the other coaches and go, "...I don't have a good feeling about this today." We lost 26-7.

It's so frustrating because parents view sports as a babysitting service so they can go to the gym or shopping. We have 21 kids on our team(which is a headache by itself) and at least 6 don't want to be there. I tried to explain to the parents this isn't baseball there is no right field to hide your kid in.

I always tell the kids and parents that all worthwhile things shouldn't be done half-heartedly, but for safety reasons it goes double for football/ contact sports. Our staff has been together for 5 years and most of the parents are absolutely fine, but we've had some head-shaking situations too. One parent got upset with us because one of the coaches "raised his voice" (no screaming, no cursing, no sarcasm or overly harsh/ age-inappropriate criticism mind you; just literately spoke somewhere between talking and yelling); others got upset about playing time during a LIGHTNING-SHORTENED scrimmage that literately lasted 30 plays/ maybe 30 minutes...just comes with the territory.

They learn it while they're smoking cigs in the bathroom at recess...

Catholic Schools...lol

Theoretically.
You're more of a practical guy than theoretical, especially when it comes to napping places.

And in ten years those kids will theoretically be legal, so they'll wake you up to help you into your wheelchair.
