In an article from The Athletic today, they cited that Coach Cal was promised an NIL budget of $5M-$7M (most from his buddy Tyson). Yikes.

As someone in the NIL space, this lines up with what I've been seeing. Expect NIL to look very different in the next 2 years, as a lot of smaller local companies bail and collectives face "small donor" fatigue. The programs with "mega donors" will pull away from the pack as they'll have war chests to cherry pick the best players every year. I've spoken to a few whales who have just reallocated their funding (which basically funded the athletics programs in the past) to see a larger percentage go to NIL.

Now, surprisingly, RU isn't in a terrible spot. We've been extremely lucky with recruiting and our location pairing beautifully this upcoming season. But this season is going to be bigger than we realize in that if a few "big companies" see ROI in marketing top recruits in NYC, they will most likely funnel top recruits to RU for the foreseeable future.
