Match Thread: Midlands Tourney, mat assignments & comments:

Can we finish 2nd as a team? It looks to be a 3 team race between RU, ASU and CMU.

From Track Wrestling just now:

Team Season Team Abbr Count Points
1 Iowa, IA Iowa, IA (GET) IOWA 14 136.5
2 Rutgers, NJ Rutgers, NJ (GET) RUT 15 102.5
3 Arizona State, AZ Arizona State, AZ (GET) ASU 14 100.5
4 Central Michigan, MI Central Michigan, MI (GET) CMU 11 92.0
5 South Dakota State, SD South Dakota State, SD (GET) SDSU 14 87.5

PS- Ariz St has 3 in the finals (RU 1) , Valencia should win, Tanner Hall could win at 285, he is the 1 seed, but I think Stoll will upset him, and Shields will probably lose to Kemerer.

Finals:
125 lbs: Nick Suriano (Rutgers) vs Ronnie Bresser (Oregon State)

133 lbs: Seth Gross (South Dakota State) vs Bryan Lantry (Buffalo)

141 lbs: Mason Smith (Central Michigan) vs Cole Weaver (Indiana)

149 lbs: Brandon Sorensen (Iowa) vs Justin Oliver (Central Michigan)

157 lbs: Michael Kemerer (Iowa) vs Joshua Shields (Arizona State)

165 lbs: Jon Schleifer (Princeton) vs Alex Marinelli (Iowa)

174 lbs: Zahid Valencia (Arizona State) vs David Kocer (South Dakota State)

184 lbs: Nate Jackson (Princeton Wrestling Club) vs Emery Parker (Illinois)

197 lbs: Frank Mattiace (Penn) vs Cash Wilcke (Iowa)

285 lbs: Tanner Hall (Arizona State) vs Sam Stoll (Iowa)

I'm not sure if they will do Consys first or at same time. 8pm start.

ASU is absolutely loaded this year too. Beating them would be very impressive. Looking forward to that Lewis vs Valencia 3rd place match tonight.

Too me that’s a better match up for Lewis. Like Bethea was. He will do well against the guys who wrestle more like him. He will struggle vs the bruisers like Marinelli. He’s a bad matchup for him. Very hard to score on and strong as an ox.

SMH if anyone is happy shame on you. With the exception of JVB wrestling back for 3/4. Need I say more. We have work to do for March.

Gravina out and DeLuca forfeiting out will hurt with the team points. I'm guessing RU finishes 3rd, possibly 4th as Central Michigan has 2 finalists, both with good shots to win, but I am not sure how many in the 3/4 bouts they have.

A little disappointed we didn't get two in the finals, but overall a decent showing.
A decent showing. Look at the teams at the Southern Scuffle. Then tell me how we would of done. Much Closer to BIGs and NCAAs. Not taking anything away but seriously. Four in the semis. Your happy going for third in the weakest of the the Scuffle and Cliff Keen.

Spencer Lee med forfeit to Moisey at 125

for 3rd
133 Del Vecchio vs Phillipi (Scott beat him yesterday 6-2)
157 JVB vs D'Angelo (Princeton)
165 Lewis vs 1 seed A Valencia (ariz St)

The Scuffle is a shadow of itself without Ok St, Cornell and NC st, basically a 2 team tourny w Penn St and Lehigh who already wrestled a dual.
Ashnault would have been an easy winner at 141 this year. What a shame.

Finals are starting at 165 (no idea why, as 157 not particularly a good matchup, and 285 best as far as 2 highly ranked guys:

165 lbs: Jon Schleifer (Princeton) vs Alex Marinelli (Iowa)

174 lbs: Zahid Valencia (Arizona State) vs David Kocer (South Dakota State)

184 lbs: Nate Jackson (Princeton Wrestling Club) vs Emery Parker (Illinois)

Thanks Abro. I am not. I am all about RU Wrestling!!! I just call like it is. No rose colored glasses. I just want national champs and all Americans. I would also like to keep my input and responses civil. No name calling or bashing.

Jersey Devil I am not a troll. Just decided to join the forum. I am a big Goody fan. I love RU Wrestling. As I previously posted I want nothing but success. At the same time anyone should be allowed to point out where we don’t succeed and when we do. I think we are on the same team.

So we have 1 going for 1st and 3 going for 3rd with a 6th place finisher (due to injury) in Gravina... Some of y'all are acting like its an embarrassment .. Yet name the last time we had 4 guys finish this high at Midlands... Is this showing cause for celebration? not at all.. But with a few breaks we can still finish 2nd as a team.. Not too shabby... And this is without our most decorated wrestler in the lineup... Its a decent showing that says we have some tough kids... Yet still says we have a lot to work on for March.. Good effort guys go RU!!

Oklahoma State will be there. VT and NC State are ending partial squads.

Wrong . Not a single ranked wrestler from Okl St will be there, take away Penn St and Lehigh and you got very little, no ranked wrestlers from VT or NC St either.

Are finals on TV?

NO. Different this year. BTN_+ or the more expensive Flo , which carries the BTN+ feed.
Flo has a lot more content however, eg Powerade today, Southern Scuffle in a few days, basketball etc
