Let's see if we can get really basic. Hopefully people can correct anything I'm wrong about or missing:
Match Points
* Both wrestlers are standing to start the match in the first period. The second and third period either start with one wrestler down or
both wrestlers standing (each wrestler gets the choice in one or the
other period).
* If both wrestlers are standing, and one takes the other wrestler down (basically, if they have control of the other wrestler and are behind him), he'll get 2 points.
* The closer that wrestler gets to pinning his opponent (near fall) after taking them down, they can earn a bunch of extra points (2 to 4 depending on time in this position).
* If the wrestler who was taken down escapes, he gets 1 point.
* If the wrestler on the bottom happens to not only get out, but escape
and, in the process, switch positions to top, then they get 2 points for
the reverse.
* If a wrestler is penalized too often for stalling or illegal holds or other things, the opponent will get a point or two (based on ref discretion).
* If by chance one wrestler has been on top for at least a minute longer than his opponent (called riding time), he'd get one bonus point at the end of the match.
Team Points
* A team gets three points if a member wins a match by 1-7 points (decision).
* A team gets four points if a member wins a match by 8-14 points (major decision).
* A team gets five points if a member wins a match by 15+ points (technical fall). At that point, the match is called unless the guy is in the process of pinning the guy.
A team gets six points if a member pins an opponent or there is a forfeit or disqualification or default (injury).
