Up to #4 defense on kenpom

And honestly watching live I thought we were better shooting in the second half (15/36, 1/6 3PT), it was more rebounding, FT shooting and obviously elite defensive

lol... you guys really believe in this ranking?
Purdue, arguably the best team in the country, averages almost 86 points per game. They scored 68 against us.
If that doesn’t convince you nothing will?

Give a GOOD reason not to, other than your own personal bias
because our offense have sucked and we milk the clock so much. dont let low scoring games mislead you to think that we have a #4 ranked defense in the nation.
It's actually very funny...

with J.Williams in there, we will be much tougher as defense goes but up to this point, noway in hell we are #4 nationally.

LOL... delusional

I do like this defensive lineup
CLIFF
MAG
J WILLIAMS
JMIKE
SIMPSON
very quick, handsy, up your face kind of guys in there.
amazing what J.Williams does for this Unit. People were sliding over so much quicker to help, or trap, which caused alot of turn overs. Looked like good old Rutgers defense...

The number quoted was using Tempo Free metrics, so holding the ball on offense wouldn’t impact it…and it’s actually up to #3 in the country today.

1. Kenpom is per possession. Milking the clock doesn’t help your defense rating in Kenpom.

2. Our tempo isn’t slow. We rank slightly above average in tempo.

As always I do appreciate whatever it is that allows people to feel the confidence necessary to call others delusional while not understanding the thing they’re discussing.

You do realize these numbers are based on "per 100 possessions" and not "per game", yes? Pace really doesn't matter.

BIG Swing and a miss, njx.

The kenpom adjD rating measures points given up on D per 100 opponent possessions. Our offense, how long or short we possess the ball has NOTHING to do with the kenpom ranking.

The only one that is delusional here is you. Lolol

We are elite defensively.
With our offense so bad we have to be.
I don’t know why the naysayers refuse to acknowledge.
Best example, Purdue averages almost 86 points per game. We held them to 68.
SHU averages 73 per game. We held them to 63.
Indiana averages 73 per game. We held them to 57

You can have blinders on or bury head in the sand but we are elite defensively.

How can anyone say this isn’t an excellent defensive team? The only aspect of D we haven’t been consistently good with is rebounding and now that has seems to have improved. If we hadn’t been historically poor with rebounding earlier in the season we might even be ranked number 1. Rebounding is the only defensive metric pulling us down.

by the way - there’s lots of talk about pressure on Pike for a bust next year and how that could impact the future.

If Pike somehow makes Harper and Ace into good defenders and clogs in top 25 kenpom D - we have ourselves a national brand. That would be a huge differentiator if we could become known as the school who preps star recruits to defend in the NBA.

Are Harper and Ace not good defenders?

It’s more than they aren’t asked to defend much. It isn’t needed. Unless your talking about a kid like JMike coming in known for his D, usually frosh aren’t that good. Simpson came in better than most as frosh but he’s a better defender this year.
