14 penalties

I’m curious Al and I genuinely don’t remember, how was our defense playing the first half of that Louisville game? That relevant based on msu going off for nearly 300 offensive yards in just the first half. Based on that a coach should think ‘it’s a miracle we’ve only given up 14, but I can’t keep counting on luck’. When your defense is getting shredded, it’s important to go after the points.

perhaps the game has simply passed him by because in both instances, we lost…
I think we got beat 56-5 . That was the game we stomped on the Cardinal

Most people believed that this build would take at least 5 years, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he got the full 8. This is what we wanted and this is what we’re getting. In this situation, you evaluate things after year 5. But I believe that sufficient progress has been made to date, to think he will get the full 8. Get a few more impact WRs and impact tight ends, and we’re good to go.
I have to laugh my friend😀
I’ve been a diehard Rutgers fan for close to 50 years and got a chuckle out of “5 year build”
We’ve been building for 45 years…lol

In a game we lost by 6 that our coach also made the decision that with 1:30 in the first half and 3 Timeouts that we were ok to go into halftime down a TD rather than attempt to steal some points before the half…

I get criticized like crazy on this board for calling out Greg Schiano… Ya’ll starting to realize it yet? We should be a 6 win team right now, we lost 2 games this year SOLELY because of coaching. The players are playing their guts out, we have talent. They are unfortunately being led by the blind…. Time to wake up and realize Greg Schiano is holding this team back.
Some of your criticism is warranted but why title your thread "14 Penalties" as if you would be discussing this continuous and troubling (for me) issue and the word "penalty" doesn't even appear anywhere in your post? You don't need to use bait and switch tactics to draw views. Your feelings about Greg are well known and we all are aware of the teenage crush you have on Mike Houston which surprises me that you haven't mentioned that ECU is one of the least penalized teams in the nation or did you not know that? But you might as well save your breath and time. GS isn't going anywhere for at least another three years and that's a fact.

haha right!!!!!

I want him to succeed but he's just not a good head football coach. He'd be a great AD but his ability to use the talent he has and manage a game are average and we need better.
We have people saying he should be judged after FIVE YEARS. Only until he gets to a senior class and every player has been recruited by him? He can't be expected to really show improvement before then? Are you kidding me?

And meanwhile Kansas, which was Ash-era bad for more than 10 years and lost to 1AA teams, which even Ash didn't do, is ranked 34th in Year 2. They lost to #5 TCU by 1 TD, were tied most of the game and never fell behind by more than a TD.

I think we should judge him right from the start.
Year 1 was A+
year 2 was B+
this year is a C

Why do you keep ignoring the obvious improvement that has been demonstrated?
Pre Schiano, Michigan State was blowing us out. Now we are competitive with them.

Pre-Schiano Michigan State was ranked regularly. They haven't been so great in the last few years. But overall, the Team is still barely winning games. Close losses are still losses. Great, they only lose by 1 or 2 TDs now instead of 5.

2 more really good teams coming in it won’t get any easier. Whether they push Purdue to the east or do pods.

NIL hurts RU IMO unless we can get some more success and rich boosters. Chicken and the egg situation on that.

Schiano use to be great at evaluating underrated 3 stars and getting them on the bandwagon early. Biggest mistake he made early was not somehow getting a better mobile QB from somewhere. There are lots of backups that must want to play.

He should/will get his at least 6 years and go from there. Baring some implosion which is unlikely.

I don't think NIL hurts anything. The dynamics are the same as they've always been. Those who had more still have more and those who don't still don't. If anything the opportunity for others has expanded at the top and on down.

I do agree and was surprised we didn't get any qbs after year 1. NV was fine for year 1 but he doesn't throw it well enough to realistically lead a consistent productive offense IMO. We needed more options and still do. GW looks like he might have something but we need other option(s).

I don't think he'll get 6 years just like that. Next year, year 4, is critical assuming we're not .500 this year. I could only find 3 coaches (Cutcliffe, Wilson, Frost) who made it to year 5 after having 4 straight below .500 regular seasons. No coach I could find has made it to year 6 with 5 straight under .500 regular seasons. Cutcliffe and Wilson won 6 in year 5 and Frost was fired in the middle of year 5. I mentioned this as my take. 0-3 wins next year and he'd likely be let go. 4-5 wins then an okay chance he could come back for year 5 but not a guarantee. If he made it to year 5 after a below .500 year 4 then no ifs ands or buts about it, he'd need 6 wins to make year 6 or he'd be fired.

Gregs actions are inspired by history. In 2005, down by a little before halftime against Louisville, Greg decided to go for the points, rather than go into halftime down by a little. Mike Teel threw a pick 6, and the rest of the game was a rout. And people on this board killed him for it, saying he should have gotten to halftime and regrouped.

So it’s his nature not to be aggressive in that situation.
The second guessers contradict the selves even within a thread. OP said we lost 2 games because we threw INT’s in our own red zone and now the OP is calling him out for not going for points before the half. Clown.

Personally I think he should have taken a timeout right after the first down run by Monangai and see if we can run the ball to mid field and then maybe take a shot or kick a long FG. It would have been a nice momentum build for us. But it’s always easy to second guess and overall I’m happy with the progress but frustrated with the results.

I and many others fall in the same boat. Think the majority feel the same way.
