So we're spending 35% more on our entire coaching staff than we did last year and have moved from dead last in salaries and into the company of schools we are on par with and people say it was a "cheap" move. UNREAL.

Thank you.

It's not cheap but it's not earth shattering either. 500-600K is a good salary for coordinators but it's not the big numbers I was hoping for when the rumors last week were swirling. You can still get solid coordinators at that salary but no guarantee and you're not likely attracting the top. Lincoln Riley makes 500K, Aranda makes 500K, Frost made like 400K after a raise so it gets you good guys before they become the top of the profession but it won't get you those who are near the top already but may not be currently compensated like it. It still might be able to get us an Eddie Gran type who makes 350K at Cincy but hard to know for sure if a current school tries to match to a degree.

It's not cheap, but I was expecting a bit more.

With the $2M HC salary and Barchi's comments about money not being an issue, I figured that was giving room to really up the ante on coordinators up to $3M or so.

It's at the high end of where I expected we'd land before Barchi's comments. My expectation was we'd end up in the $4-4.5M or so all-in for staff, and we're at $4.75M... his comments made me think that was going to go upwards of $5M.

The $2.75M is actually pretty good league-wide. The $2M HC salary is 3rd lowest in the Big Ten, but I think we got a good candidate - so that feels more to me like a bargain than not getting the value we wanted.

Rutgers apparently spends somewhere in the middle of the B1G with revenues and donations that are dwarfed by everyone with maybe the exception of Maryland. I don't know if you can reasonably expect more.

As for the money isn't an issue statement. I believe too many are equating that with unlimited funds which is seldom the case anywhere.

Easy to say RU is cheap when it ain't your money in play here. Not like we can keep writing IOUs indefinitely with all the folks we owe money too based on firings and consultants etc. When we start making money things should (hopefully) be different.

I don't think you can reasonably expect more, it's about what I expected. Barchi's statement didn't get a rise out of me either that it was a "new world." I took that to be somewhat boilerplate and that they're might be some marginal increase in monies to more normalized levels but nothing earth shattering.

It was the talk on this board from multiple people who I think are generally reasonable posters that got me thinking is it really true that they're really opening up the wallet. I usually take most of that kind of stuff with grains of salt but I was hopeful that maybe it was, it isn't and all those rumors were likely orchestrated BS. In the future, I'll stick with my usual see it to believe it/grains of salt stance haha.

Funny how that works, isn't it? Everyone wants a big budget but nobody wants to foot the bill. Only in New Jersey...
