2016 RU HC Candidates: Rhule,Frost and Anderson all mentioned

New Jersey and it's surrounding states actually produces way way way better athletes than the Oregon area. We already have the explosive athletes on the roster. My two knocks on New Jersey high school football has always been QB development and being able to produce enough instate O-Linemen. Athlete are a dime a dozen in this state, but losing Offensive Linemen and QBs especially kills us. This system will fix that problem. Other than Chip Kelly there is no better choice than Scott Frost to install this system. He's already has a much more recognizable brand than Schiano did when he came here as a rookie coach. Frost will have the attention every recruit east of the Mississippi and creat a buzz with the media. This high scoring dynamic offense will make Rutgers must see TV and benefit The Big Ten Network.

I have one problem with Rhule. If we hired him and 5 years down the road there was a HC opening at PSU, wouldn't he jump?

We have to face facts and accept that we are a stepping stone program until we can start winning 9 games consistently, competing for conference championships, and can pay to attract and retain top coaches. We aren't there yet. The AD and administration needs to understand this.

I don't like Rhule, still way too short a resume and we don't even know how the rest of this season is going to play out.

However to your point of coaches jumping so be it. Longevity is a bonus but shouldn't be a criteria IMO. Coaches job hop, people in the "real world" job hop too. It's a fact of life, just have to deal with it. Besides if a coach left to a bigger name well then I'd assume at the very least he'd left the place better than he found it and that's what you hope.

The only thing I'd try to prevent is leaving before 3 years or so with some sort of buyout and even that isn't bulletproof against deep pocketed schools. I would try to prevent what happened at Pitt with Graham and now Chryst, that was too much. I think Pitt did with Chryst but he probably had the one out for Wisconsin his alma mater.

Beyond that though just hope the guy you pick is a good one and if he leaves then move on and who knows maybe somebody on the staff will be just as good or better. Boise St. did well in the past elevating staff from Koetter to Hawkins to Peterson, TCU Franchione to Patterson, Oregon from Kelly to Helfrich, Stanford from Harbaugh to Shaw.

Yup. I want the coach who wants bigger and better things. The guy who has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove...who willI bust his ass to make a name for himself. I want the guy who wants to coach at Alabama, OSU, or the NFL in a few years..not the guy who is happy to be here or just to have a P5 job. That's when you get complacent and mediocre results.

if any of you like to bitch about jersey talent leaving home and going somewhere else.. threads like this make it easier for them to say thanks but no thanks and keep walking.. think about it..

I'm so past this. If you're not a QB or Offensive Lineman I really really don't care if you leave the state. With good coaching we will be fine without you. This isn't Nebraska, Indiana, Arkansas, or Tennessee we aren't hurting for athletes in our state.

Scott Frost is "drop the microphone and walk off stage hire". College football is going mainstream Top 4 sports" in this country and Rutgers and Maryland needs to be at the forefront. No longer will this be a small town game. By the grace of the all mighty dollar we are a Power 5 school, now let's take a battering ram to the new age and make the right damn hire.

Ok Bamm , I guess if you really don't care that most of the talent leaves the state, I can see why you don't care if threads like this can make it easier for them to say no to rutgers. You are definitely entitled to that opinion. Don't be surprised if a few people disagree with you. The case has been made that it is why Rutgers football is what it is.

Kids leave the state for many reasons. Iconic coach. Storied program. Weather. Hotter/friendlier hostesses (apparently). Something negative posted on ScarletNation.com is probably way down on that list (if at all).

I'm fine with RHULE, Frost, and ROd Carey being interviewed. RHULE would be the favorite because he knows defense and has been a HC.

MUST HAVE:

(1.) Unremarkable personal history & smooth 'presence' - While the local media should not be a consideration in most situations, right now and right here it can't be dismissed. Unlike other venues where the critical analysis of a coach will focus predominantly on their coaching performance, this market has become addicted to scrutinizing every aspect of personal history in search of anything that could possibly be sensationalized. So a guy who had a messy divorce 20 years ago, a guy who had even a marginal ambiguity on his resume, a guy who was an assistant on a disgraced coach's staff, or some other factor - should be wary. This is not a total exclusion - but - the candidate has to be very savvy in dealing with the media.

(2.) VISION & knack for rapid response - need somebody who has great (and lightening quick) instincts - who can rapidly recognize & counter the opponent's strategies with shrewd moves. Some coaches (Flood ?) appear to be methodical 'administrators' they can organize(in accordance with 'conventional wisdom') .... they can plan (by the book) - but when something unfolds on the field before them, they lack instant recognition & lack instant assessment of what to do (they often end up in post game presser saying "uh, we will have to looks at that on film")

(3.) tough one -- any college coach must have a pretty huge EGO - but most of the great ones are incredible champions on behalf of their staff & team - be an insightful delegators & developers of talent - the guy everybody want to work for.... staff & recruit alike

Sorry guys but I'm sick of this mediocre little engine that could mentality. That's a misrepresentation of New Jersey athletics. There ant no Cinderella of The Ballroom here because we're the ones throwing The damn Ball! 1869 remember? This isn't a small rural town! It's industry and skyscrapers! We're the most densely populated state between two of the largest most affluent cities on the planet! We shouldn't be begging kids to come here. This is why I wanted Bobby Petrino here so much. It wasn't about winning at all cost! It was simply about winning while maintaining academic integrity. We should be winning without compromising the program and university. Scott Frost will make the right kids want to be here.

Of last years college football Final 4, just how many of them finish with a Top 10 defense? This game has changed!

We've replace those skill position players time and time again. Offensive Line and coaching is where the oil is. Just ask Alabama and all those offensive linemen they plucked out of the state of Maryland.

I get excited when the coaching staff lands an out of state skill position players like Rene and Hicks but shrug my shoulders when a Kareem Walker wants to leave the state. It only burns me when we lose a QB Joe Flacco to Pitt or an OL like Matias to Florida State.

Well, if you like offense then going after guys like Fuente and Babers whose offenses certainly know how to move the ball (look at the box score from Saturdays game).

Frost has been groomed for this day since his arrival at Oregon. He was often referred to as Chip's right hand man under his tenure. Frost has been around notable coaches such as Bill Walsh, Tom Osborne, Bill Parcells and Jon Gruden among others.

He comes with a great coaching pedigree, a system and a brand. Some media outlets will treat this as if Oregon has been brought to The B1G. Some recruits will treat this as if Oregon has come to the east coast. I'm not looking for a savior of the program, I'm looking for a coach with a system that'll excite the recruits and creat a buzz with the media. The donor and boosters will come.

Again, its funny how a legendary coach like Bob Stoops will take chances/risks with hot and upcoming coordinators to give his team an edge and stay with the times but a below average guy like Flood is above that. I wonder which guy is a winner.

Because Bob Stoops doesn't have to worry about a coordinator who looks better than he does. He has a lot of security, both job security and mental confidence security. Flood would be looking over his shoulder all the time, with reason. That's just not fair.
