Mulcahy is on board, and Young is kinda like a new recruit. We have no other open scholarships unless someone leaves, right? I saw a post about a 2019 player that went to Pitt- but we have no open scholarships? Confused - only two players would seem to have even a chance of leaving:
1. Doucoure - but everyone seems sure he is staying;
2. Thiam-but he’d have to graduate this year to be eligible for next year, or sit out a year to play.

Incorrect. We have one open ship due to Doorson graduating.

We would have more ships if anybody else leaves the program.

I have been a fan of Thiam and expected 10 to 12 points/game this year, unfortunately he seems to have regressed. If he can, I think he transfers. Duke on the other hand should stay. I see some upside and it is a position of need going forward.

Next year...we have 12 scholarship players

Senior (3)-Onamuryi/carter/thiam

Junior (3)-Baker/young/kiss

soph (5) Mathis/Harper/Johnson/Macconnell/
Doucoure

Frosh (1) Mulchay

So we have one to give for the class of 2019

And three to give for the class of 2020

Right now my fear is that we can't fill the 2nd scholarship for next year, or that we give it to someone who isn't a B1G talent. If that's the case, I hope Thiam stays. No point in wasting the scholarship. Until recently, we seemed to be chasing a 2-star in Pearson. A little worried that Mulcahy will be the entire class.

Is it fair to say that we are looking at getting at least 2 bigs of the 3 scholarships for 2020?

Would love to get a 3,4 and 5

Definitely need some bigs with EO and Carter going after next year and that it takes bigs a bit to develop. Pike has found some great underranked players in EO Geo Caleb Myles so maybe he finds another of those. As kyk has been saying a sit out transfer seems to make a lot of sense here or a grad transfer if a second spot opens up

Was going to say the same thing. Pike has a great eye for talent.

The last scholarship will not be unused for 2019. We are looking at several options but nobody seems to want to close just yet. It will happen . I also think it’s possible one more scholarship could open up.

I want NIT or NCAA next year. Who we can reel in to help us there? Who could be a complement to Young and Mulcahy?

I really think we have the talent already to dance Next year

Here is my thoughts

1.) one ship for 2019

Get a low post man who can play four and five and stash him ...redshirt for 2019-2020. Shaq carter Type

2.) class of 2020
-a center to fill in behind Johnson and doucoure (and. The class 2019 recruit
-a stretch four to behind Harper after Eugene graduates
-another shooting guard

Lots of time left. I know it’s quiet, but guys like Gettys, Jacob Young, McConnell, and Strickland (who we missed) emerged late. It’s not like we’re going after a five star guy for this class. I know nothing, but there’s always plenty of talent left. A grad transfer would be nice. Also, I’m going to say it again Massoud could come back in play if Manning is fired and they release him of is LOI.

I’d like to see a shooter at the 3 spot and if anyone transfers, go for the 5. I think we could take 2 bigs in the 2020 class. I’m comfortable for next year with Johnson and Carter. Doucoure leaves and there’s your other opening.

This season has already exceeded expectations, some more wins and a decent showing in the tournament should make RU finally look like a good choice to play. Waiting to fill that schollie may be a good thing for Pike.

What about Joey Downes , he went from walk-on to being given a scholarship this year.
He'll be a Junior for the 2019-20 season.
But being a 3rd year Soph this year might have enough credits to graduate this year and end his RU basketball career.

He's not guaranteed a scholly for next year. That was Pike rewarding him

I am not in favor of a grad transfer for next year....we have seen a ton of names from last year that people clamored for and very few did much of anything at their stop.

We should find the hungriest and defensive minded 4 man or the wing 3 man to compliment Harper up front.

I am basing the assumption that we revamp Doucoure to Myles Johnson level player.

The overriding need is for a shooter with the last scholarship. Kiss was supposed to be that player .Rutgers needs far better out put from the 3 point shot.

Also, the new practice center should be ready to open in the summer. That could mean in May or June it should start to look real inside and become a real showplace for recruiting. I’m not saying we wait that long to fill the final spot but it’s such an important last scholarship to find the right guy. The days of artist renderings are long gone. I have no idea on the progress inside but I’m assuming it’s rolling along? We keep playing well and I would be surprised if we don’t land a monster 2020 class?
