I see many of the players tweeting this #. What's it mean? I thought maybe a ranking? Ken Pom has us sub 200

Hey Monmouth is ranked #60 and apparently we did well in the scrimmage. I really think we will see an uptick in being competitive this year...fewer blow outs for sure. Expect better results with better coaching, conditioning and player development.

Only Rutgers fan base cares about preventing blowouts, conditioning, doing well in a scrimmage, minutes spent practicing defense. The rest of the world laughs at the results.

Only the fanbases of bad teams that recently changed their coach care about progress. We were a bad team that recently changed its coach.

Georgia Tech is a bad team (#218) with a new coach, too, and I'm sure they're mostly looking for progress in his first season.

It's about being a realist and not living in a fantasy world. Our program is so behind other teams in our conference. Last year we would have been a .333 in the Ivy League.

With everyone back and healthy, and the new additions, we are not 253. That number is based on last year's results. I have a sneaky feeling that it's going to be a fun year

Georgia Tech may not win an ACC game

True - which is why their fanbase is likely looking at "progress" rather than at the W/L record. Is the team on the right path, do the players look/move/defend/rebound/etc better, and whatnot.

We could be a ton better this year than we were last year, and still only win like 10 or 11 games.

these players have a ton of confidence going into this year. I talked to Nigel Johnson at a football game and he said they're gonna make the RAC rock again. I'm jacked up for the season.

Have not been to the RAC in years. Watched two of the first four games and Now I will be going to at least 5 games this year.

Have a lot of good memories of the RAC from my time at RU, would love to see that level of intensity back again.

Welcome back. Spread the word. We need many more like you to come back to the RAC!

The CBSsports.com RPI is a joke every year until about New Year's Day. We do however have to keep winning at home and good things will happen. The RAC will come back if we keep "Moving On Up". I will keep saying "We need those "Pikesicles" and the RAC will really be rocking.

This is what I was talking about the other day...

"a buzz, buzz..."

This is how it starts.

Who really cares what Kenpom says? As we keep getting better it will keep changing what they predict our record will be. What a joke.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Isn't that the point? As you keep getting better, it will keep reflecting that improvement in its predictive model?
Yeah that is the model but it gives you no insight into how you are going to do now . It is partially based on last year's results that you can throw out the window as well as the perceived strengths of teams based upon won lost records. Those teams with lousy records might become better as the year unfolds. I believe it is a better tool to use later in the year after 20+ games .

What i don't know is the progression of phasing out predictions vs. current year. We may already be at a a place where the numbers are only based on this year.

Say what you want 15-16 5-13 is right about where most would right now predict.

Go look at Massey predictions posted in another thread. They are a joke.

the ranking is based on the diffferential of adjusted effective offense and adjusted effective defense. the raw numbers are just points per possession scored and points per possession allowed. it's the adjustments that is the secret in the sauce.

It appears kenpom is still not believing in our defense. We are 20th in the country allowing .889 points per possession. our adjusted number is 1.002 or 114th. On offense we are a raw 1.068 points per possession 94th and adjusted 1.02 or 177th.

Not sure why the adjustment on D would be .11 and our O would only be .048. Are these poor teams further a way from good teams on the offensive end (effecting our D) than on the defensive end (effecting our O)? I'd think it would close to the same.

Our opponents average raw scores are O .958 and D 1.079

Well at least that clearly shows how much better our defense is this year compared to any of the last 5-6 years!
