Penn State won tournament opener upsetting Iowa 5-2. The two pitching staffs combined for 32 strikeouts. Ouch.

Perfect. Get those K's out of the way. GREAT start to the tourney for RU.

And then there were the 11 Ks chalked up by RU pitchers.

Not sure what accounted for the extraordinary number of strikeouts so far in the tourny from such ordinary pitchers. Were the umps seeing a larger strike zone, aggressive batters, unfamiliar stadium site lines, nerves- who knows but to see that many Ks in the year of the hitter was a bit odd.

It'll be interesting to see if that continues.

Strike zone appeared normal in RU Game.
Steve Owens said early in the game batters where chasing bad pitches....
They settled down and the walks came in the 7th and 8th

“Only” 8 RU batters struck out. Nothing extraordinary there. It was the 11, 15, 17, 18 by 4 other teams that caught my attention, especially since the quality of the pitching was suspect.
