This. If you noticed the 2 areas hit hardest by the last couple of seasons have been:

- the north endzone
- the student section

...makes complete sense. They'll come around again if we KEEP getting better/winning.

Lose to PSU, beat Indiana, and I'll bet dollars-to-donuts both areas are a tad more "full" than yesterday.

if we cannot get them to cross the river for a game, you think they will show up two days after Thanksgiving for the season finale

I hope so and, if not, it hopefully changes next year. The point stands: you're going to get hit hardest in those 2 areas of seating when the team isn't playing well/when things have been bad for a while. It's always been that way, realistically, if you think back to even when we were in school (see: old stadium lol)!

Student attendance in relationship to the # of students etc is becoming worse and not good to see. Right now it's not the in thing and when students actually not have to pay or buy season tickets as opposed to being included somewhere in student fees it will be interesting to see if there is any change in student attendance. I think Barchi is wrong on this in pushing his agenda on the athletic department budget accounting.

There are a lot of people are weary on buying tickets on a secondary market, the same people who won't use Uber/Lyft because they think they'll be mugged.

The dynamic pricing worked for the first 2 years because of the novelty of seeing Michigan, OSU, and PSU coming here for the first time.

Now, no one is willing to pay ridiculous prices to see Rutgers get destroyed by OSU.
RU fans must all be 60+ years old if they can’t figure out stubhub or PayPal. I’m guessing that money is a low factor on why people don’t come to games. People that complaint about pricing just want to come to the game for less. Dynamic pricing absolutely works. Tested and proven.

heard ,or read somewhere this Maryland game was lowest B10 RU home attendance since joining the B10

Do single game ticket buyers park at the RAC? Does the ticket office offer single game parking tags for color-coded lots?

The whole tailgating issue with the students, plus the fact that they never did resolve recreating The Alley, has led to the students tailgating on College Ave. and not coming to the games. That needs to be changed.

Actually...................yes.

Single game ticket buyers have to park in gameday lots. The only way to get into the color coded lots is to buy a pass being sold by a season ticket holder.

Attendance is a lagging indicator — give it time; this year’s success will be evident in next year’s sales, which should see a little boost.

Wow took the words right out of my mouth. IMO the ‘walk-up’ is usually influenced greatly by the previous year’s record. l remember during ‘06 the UConn game (granted it was Sunday night) had about 37-38k even though we were undefeated/Top 20 for the first time in 30 years while the ‘07 team was pretty much at or above capacity all season long. The ‘03 squad also had decreased attendance as the season progressed IIRC even though we were clearly better. Add that in with ‘dynamic pricing’ and increased parking costs and it’s going to hurt the walkup.

...that all said, yeah we need to step up as a fanbase.

the lot points and donation thing is also a hard sell when you dont have a 500 squad.Cost of lots needs to be lowered.

Dynamic Pricing only works when Tickets are in Demand for a Event....like a Springsteen concert.
Maryland football game at HPSS is not a ticket in demand.

From Rutgers position forget about Stub Hub....those tickets were already sold by RU and no further revenue to be made. People just trying to get some money back and cut their losses.

Rutgers needs to bring in the casual / newbie fans by offering discounts and promotion. And how about Advertising ? Have not seen nor heard any Football ticket Ads this year from Rutgers.

Want to bring down the empty 25,000 seats eacjh from the last 2 home games: Advertise $25 Upper Deck and End Zone seats .

Exactly. First year without season tickets in a while. Didn't attend UW, Morgan or OSU. Paid $10 for EMU, $20 for Purdue and $20 yesterday. My ticket cost for the season has gone from $800 to $50 and will be able to go to MSU for no more than $20 also. It doesn't pay to be a season ticket holder nowadays. I'll get back in when I have to; which might be a little while.
Yea good luck with that. It makes total sense for me, I have lower tier 40 yd. line seats. You think I got those by being nice? I paid a lot in donations for those priority points to get them over the years. So how does it make sense to throw thousands upon thousands of dollars away like you just did. Like I said good luck with your endzone seats or upper tier corner seats. I'll take my view from the 40.

I've seen commercials on TV for Rutgers football and know that some local radio stations had spots too.

Didn't the athletic dept send out promo codes for $35 tickets?

I'm not saying that they did a great job, but an effort was made. Hopefully they learned their lesson on trying to give away a home game.

Even if l could only go to 1 game a year l’d do whatever l reasonably could to keep my season tickets. We could move over a section or 2 but we love being in 130.

Dude please share whatever you are smoking. Do you really think the fair weather fan contingent was even thinking about attending this game? Grow up!

I had a few fair weather fans in my group come. Thanks for coming to 1 game, great job bro.

You perfect fans need to work harder, make more money so you can donate enough to have the kind of program you so obviously "deserve", being that special kind of "real" fan.

Perfect, special fans? Oh you mean going to the games? Lmao loser

Demand is higher for MD vs EMU. Why would newbie fans buy worst seats for the same cost? Like I said before. Money is a very low factor for attendance.

Attendance was pathetic & a disgrace. Too many fairweather fans in our fanbase & NJ. Have some pride people. Make it a priority to support your school & alma mater & show up, regardless of results & record.

AGREED. And no way was there close to 35,000. I'd bet my house we didn't have 20k in the building. But, man, we were LOUD!

The game was scheduled for the last 9 months for Yankee Stadium and only changed to HPSS 2 weeks ago.
I would think many people who had already changed their plans thinking they weren’t going to the Bronx had other things scheduled yesterday.

You would think however that we would get a much stronger walk up crowd to this game.
RU needs to look at individual game prices ( is it affordable) , Advertise more, and address the Parking headaches to attract the casual/ new college football fan.

I fell into this category. Was not going to the Stadium and made alternate plans. (I was able to give my tix to a friend). I suspect there were many others.

Agree that number is surprising low - the fact that it was scheduled at Yankee Stadium (and had caused many non-die hard fans to plan for something else that day) may have contributed to that number.
I think this was a major factor. I think there may have been some die hard fans who weren't going to go to Yankee Stadium and made other plans.

Money is absolutely a main factor in attendance at sporting events, especially when the demand is low. And this version of modified dynamic pricing does not work for low demand games. The RU alumn who is a casual follower and isn't a big sports fan, but doesn't mind attending a game or two each year is going to scarletknights.com for tickets, not necessarily stubhub. Ditto to mom looking to do something to do this weekend with the family. Seeing $55 tickets as the cheapest option is a major turnoff for those people.

With the team having a rough few years, and with this technically being modified dynamic pricing instead of true dynamic pricing, it's not working as well as it could--as seen by the empty seats.

Do you think the Giants will fire sale tickets next year? Product on the field is #1 factor. Money (espically at the $20 per ticket range) is not. Mom knows how to find cheap tickets. They are a lot smarter than you and me.

No wrestling only fan was going to pay $55 to get in. Ironically, when I walked to the gate at 11:45 a.m., they just waved everyone in. No ticket was needed. Go figure. $$$$

Good lord the excuses in this thread. Some of you lunactics post here all day but can make it to the games on Saturday.

The NFL in general is certainly not immune anymore to the issue of getting fans to attend games.

What? We sold 35k tickets. Problem is not everyone is going. You can pick up tickets in the 2ndary market for $20 if you don’t want to pay sticker.
Yesterday's tickets were for $44 on Stubhub. Maybe because of the Wrestling DH going on as well. MSU tickets are up to $26 and should be going up.

Dynamic Pricing only works when there is a demand for it. For our first 2 years in the B10 yes, it worked somewhat, however last year, and this year there's no reason for them to charge what they've been charging for "Marquee" games.

I think yesterday's game was an outlier because of the hardcopy tickets, which in all likelihood resulted in higher priced tickets on stubhub.

can we wait at least a day before pointing out the negatives even after a big win?--it gets tiresome---the glass is always half empty to some

can I echo this? Saturday was a fantastic day for the program, and it seems like all people can do is to complain about what didn't go perfectly. I know that's the nature of all sports boards, but it is getting, as the man said, tiresome.

They're are waiting till the upper deck is built then they will all come out and pack the stadium.

LoL my friends got tickets for 20 bucks. It's not dynamic pricing or etc. It's that last season and then in before it was bad.

But these recent wins are huge for us. Win at least 1 vs mich state and Indiana and we will see much better attendance next season.
