A lot of Turnover in the B1G East

I am expecting a down year all around in our division next year, with the exception of Michigan. They don't lose anyone in Ann Arbor next year and O'Korn (remember him from Houston) is eligible. They are winning each conference game and any result other than a playoff appearance will be a disappointment. But other than them look around:

tOSU is literally losing everyone. Jalin Marshall is leaving early and Michael Thomas most likely will as well. Zeke is gone (thank God), Braxton Miller is gone, and a lot of those stud juniors on defense are leaving early. Teams like them reload, but that is a lot of experience to be giving up.

Mich St will be in it till the end, and they always seem to have another QB waiting in the wings, but let's be honest: this was a flawed team this season that got as far as they did because of a crazy botched punt, almost lost to US, and beat tOSU in a game where the coaches forgot they had the best RB in the country. I expect them to take a step back as they can't get that fortunate two years in a row.

PSU will be fine with Barkley making plays. But it'll be tough to replace Nassib, Zettel AND Johnson. I don't think they can improve much from last year.

Indiana loses their star QB and RB. Diamont played some this year and showed progression, but you cannot hide that their defense is awful. I hope they enjoyed their bowl experience this year.

Maryland I don't have much of a handle on. The recruiting class is really strong but I don't put much faith into any freshmen being a impact right away. They will probably be better in November than they are in September.

And then there is us. Lose a lot of defense at the LB position. Bring back some young kids in the secondary like Hester, Wharton and Austin that'll be better. But that front 7 is going to have some pains. And we have to replace Carroo who we were clueless without this year.

The crux of this post is this: Are we ready to stick out our chests and say we are ready to compete for a championship. Hell no. But can we navigate this schedule and win some ballgames. Absolutely.

Agree, I don't think our schedule is quite as daunting as it looks right now. Some teams that look scary in 2015 wont be quite as scary in 2016.

Waaay too many unknowns to tell what we've got going on our end though. Should be one interesting offseason.

If they come in with a 7-6 record next year, Franklin is on the hot seat or will be fired depending how they perform.

What's the scoop on Bell and Whartman for PSU? Both are darn good LB's. Are either considering leaving for the league?

OSU will be losing a ton of talent but it'll probably just be next man up. Remember, they played ND missing 3 of 4 DL 1st teamers.

MSU $h#t-the-bed hang-over, tOSU missing key parts, PSU down the toilet and Franklin on the hot -seat, meanwhile RU with a core of good players and the new, great coaching ------ this is the year i tell ya!....

If we lose by less than a TD/win against any of these teams next year I'll send you a case of whatever beer you'd like

I'm optimistic for a 4-4 Big10 Conference Record, no worse than 3-5. QB still a huge issue.

Eli Apple from OSU declared for NFL. OSU may only have 4-5 starters back on D and 4-5 starters back on O.

PSU losing 3 very good DL will hurt them. Hackenberg leaving will help them.

OSU will have 3 starters back on offense, 3 on defense. A little misleading though as many of the new starters in 2016 received valuable playing time. Still, like 2014, it could be a rocky start for the Buckeyes. Should get better as the season progresses

Let's not forget one thing: OSU is replacing everyone with very high quality players - the highest - and MSU isn't too far behind them PLUS both have top-end coaching staffs. TEMPTER EXPECTATIONS for next year my friends we have a long, long way to go, thanks to 3 very mediocre classes. I want what everyone else here wants, however, expecting more than a couple of wins, in conference play, is really asking for too much from this roster and a brand new coaching staff.

FYI we play NINE (9) conference games next season, and all thereafter, and if we get to 4-5 I will buy you a beer. Remember, we went 1-7 in conference play this past season, getting to 4 wins, IMHO, would be a HUGE step in the right direction (but one I'd love!).

4 wins would not be outrageous in the slightest. Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and PSU all at home and Minny and Maryland on the road. I can see us squeaking out 4 wins there.

I'd be shocked beyond all belief if we beat Iowa - they're loaded again next year and likely Top 10 going into the season - and very, very surprised to win @ Minnesota or even beat Penn State at home. We will be underdogs in all 3 (and big underdogs to Iowa). Shoot even Illinois finished way ahead of us in Sagarin this past year (72nd to 98th). We were a BAD team this past season, lost our only true "weapon" on offense, our best OL (by far), lost 3 starting LB's (with practically ZERO experience behind them...), are still very, very young at DB, and are installing new systems across the board.

Not saying it won't happen but, again, "temper" expectations for 2016.

I see people are already raising their expectations too high and have us winning EVERY swing game...relax. RU will have a good shot at winning 3 conference games, anything else is pushing it. Pencilling in wins over programs that are currently at our level or ahead as Minny and PSU are is a surefire ticket to disappointmentville.

RU is only going to be favored in two of these games.

I get that, but would you really be that shocked to see us get 4 wins out of those 6? If I had to guess I'd say we take 3, but Maryland, Illinois, Indiana, and Minny really aren't very good and I wouldn't be shocked (pleasantly surprised you could say) to see us win all of those. Penn State at home is also winnable and while Iowa was probably a reach, these are their win totals the past 12 seasons: 11, 7, 6, 6, 9, 11, 8, 7, 4, 8, 7, 12 (against an incredibly weak schedlue for the B1G). They could of course prove otherwise, but going off history, their most likely destination after such a great season is back down to what they are, average.

"fyi" Final Sagarin ratings for teams currently being discussed:

Iowa 23
Penn State 50
Minny 64
Indiana 70
Illinois 72
Maryland 85

Rutgers 98

...so I, for one, would be beyond shocked if we got 4 of these 6. Happy as a pig-in-shit, no doubt, but ZERO expectations as such and I think it's beyond unfair to heap them on this staff and program. There's work to be done, but, I think we've got the right guy!
