25 % probability we are disinterested on D and shoot worse than normal and lose badly
50% probability game is really close with us being disinterested on D, but Ace and Dylan and others make shots
25% probabily we win going away with a better defensive performance and we knock down a bunch of shots

no there have been games where we tried to grind things out...NW, Illinois, UCLA

its not worth the effort right now with zero at large shot and no point in trying to build for the future, this is about right here right now

expect 2 ugly losses vs Michgan and Purdue and two probable exciting wins for USC and Minnesota

I haven’t looked the numbers to confirm but this team seems to be able to do one of offense and defense on a given day but not both

Like the correlation between good offense and bad defense and vice versa is very high

Talk to me when there ANY signs the defense is inproving.

It is actually getting worse

Our recipe for success is shooting 50% from 3 and over 50% on all FGs.
The defense showed signs of improvement at one point but has since regressed back to embarrassing

I've never seen so many easy buckets game after game after game

Diablo drove EVERY time and easily got to the basket.
Harris ALWAYS took the outside shot and made too many threes.
We had no answer for the center. Lathan is not a Big Ten level defender. We miss Ogbole.
If Lathan gets in early foul trouble we are dead in the water. unless Ace and Dylan Harper are both on fire.

And just think, the guard defense you lambaste is the best part of our defense. The defense from the wing's and big's is even worse.
No it is not. All of the wing problems start because of the allowance repeatedly , like every possession , of our guards specifically JMike , Jordan and Tyson , of not playing to keep their man in front of them . Jeremiah at least tries and is partially effective as does Dylan but it needs correction. The biggest frustration is Pike actually thinks JMike is a good defensive player and continues to play him too much as Jeremiah and Tyson must get the guard minutes after Dylan , as he has been horrendous defensively in almost every game.

Worst defensive team in the Pike era for sure. Ogbole season-ending injury was a huge hit on the defensive end, and he was improving too. We need Harper and Ace to score 45-50 combined to have a chance in any game, that's asking too much to grind through a B1G season and tourney. But I'll keep hoping.
Manny ‘s loss turns out to hurt us more than his actually stat production as it has now caused Lathan to get in foul trouble every game. Then Pike goes to Martini which is an absolute disaster in the post and then to Grant who has size , can rebound and block shots. But we don’t want Grant playing the 5.

WVU got in two years ago with 14 losses on selection day. Not 15. Not sure what your talking about on Virginia.
Yup 14 losses playing in one of the best conferences in the history of bball. We beat pitt, auburn, kansas st, tcu and Iowa state. We also had no bad losses and something like 8 or 9 of our losses were to ranked team.

Ogbole's injury was the turning point on D imho. We have donut D--big hole in the middle, can't stop guards driving or a decent or better big man when he gets the ball in/near the paint. As others have noted, Lathan, who stinks defensively anyway, is always in foul trouble leading to Martini who adds next to nothing on D or rebounding, and can't score like Sommerville. Grant is OK but still can be overmatched by a bigger C/F. Dortch is next man-up but even at 6'9 he needs to bulk-up to play with B1G bigs, and he's obviously a project offensively.

What if we win out and that includes beating Michigan and Purdue on the road? lol. I honestly think we'd be back in the at large conversation,
From the wishcasting dept.: if we won out, then lost in the B1G tourney title game, I am certain we'd get in. We'd have won nine in a row (or perhaps eight straight if we finish in the top 9 at 10-10). We'd be the talk of the country and there's no way the committee would keep Ace and Dylan out of the big dance. The demand to see them in the NCAA tournament would be sky high.

Those schools didn't have two of the top 3 picks in the upcoming NBA draft.
Won't matter...17-14 entering tourney and the committee already has their at large selections by Thursday

Edit..that wasn't osu...I think Texas A&M and also VA tech who did win acc tourney but their seed of 13 indicated they would have not been an at large

Texas A& M was the team who won all those games and lost in the final. Another committee error as A& M should have been selected as they just ran out of gas on the 5 th game. Just like NC State last year , who would not be selected except they won 5 in 5 days. But they obviously were good enough to make the Sweet 16. Committee ****s up all the time.

FWIW (not saying this changes anything) but to those who said we beat a “bad team” last night - watching that game last night Washington did NOT look like a bad team at all. In fact they looked pretty deep with a number of talented athletic scorers.

That was a good road win against a team that is NOW playing well.

Too little too late but still a good win IMHO

Unfortunately like most I'm 99.9% sure we don't win out the regular season and probably get R clocks cleaned at Mich with their 2 B1Gs lighting it up and their athleticism overall not letting Harper/Ace go off. But I'm a dreamer, and sticking with Blutarsky for now.

15 losses including Kennesaw and Princeton
Normally the losses are the disqualifier. But one thing you seem to ignore is the number of Quad 1 games we have played. 15 of our 27. No other team on the bubble and beyond is even close. We are second to Auburn. Now 4-11 ( Penn State moved back to Quad 1 is not good but under Mike ‘s scenario if Michigan and Purdue fall that is 6-11. If the tourney results in another that would be 7 Quad 1 wins. It is worth a consideration even though it might be considered not enough with the entire body of work.
