This is a Multiple Year Rebuild

This is NOT football Al. multi year build in hoops is nonsense. You need 7 descent players that will buy in. Look at how many coaches in their 1st year with their new team turned their program around in 1 year. Pope @ UK, Kelsey @ Louisville, Dusty May @ UM, McCollum @ Drake Pike and his staff need to be held accountable and coach better. Make the players play defense and rebound for God's sakes.
And how do you get 7 decent players when you have no money? There’s no settlement yet, so we can’t count on that money. This is why it’s going to be a multi year rebuild. Our portal results are likely going to be a hit or miss crapshoot, where we’ll be scouring the bottom of the barrel for kids who can succeed. I’m praying that Angelino and Nwuli are the real deal, otherwise we’re really screwed.

Those coaches you cite had significant money backing them. This isn’t the A10 or Big East, where our financials were similar to everyone else. We’re in the Big Ten, competing with well capitalized programs who have significantly more money than we do.

I certainly don't have the basketball knowledge that many of you have but it's my impression that Pikiell does emphasize defense but that it is difficult to get players to buy into it. My guess is that "one and done" players (who are increasingly the trend everywhere) are more interested in padding their stats on offense than in using their energy to play defense or to box out to rebound.

Absolutely wrong. Rutgers needs multiple years because there are not enough resources to do single year rebuilds.

There is no time for a rebuild. Pike got that when he was hired, but everything has changed. His seat will be very hot if he’s not back in the tourney in the next 2. And we finished 11th in a tough conference, this isn’t picking us up out of the grave like Pike and Greg had to do. Asking pike to get us back to 6-7 in the conference quickly isnt a tall ask - and I love Pike and I’m rooting for him. 5 years without a tourney isn’t defensible.

You’re trying to bargain and that just isn’t feasible in this environment. We’re going to have to make time for the rebuild. There’s no money and there’s not enough talent. Not the combination we needed for success. This team will struggle to win 15 games and may not even get to 11 Wins.

The settlement money DOES NOT MATTER

Once that money hits all 18 big ten programs and all the other power schools get it too

It’s just going to drive the prices up of the players already being grossly overpaid

You don’t think the 1 million dollar guy is going to get 1.3-1.4 because of the increased pot?

Rutgers isn’t going to get anyone better because of the extra cash it’s just going to cost more to get the guys we’re already in the hunt for

Maybe, but keep in mind that the schools will all be subject to the same cap. A school that pays $1.3 million to the guy now getting $1 million is going to have to sacrifice somewhere else to make up for it.

It matters for us, because it will allow us to get some serviceable players. Right now we have nothing to offer prospective recruits. High on my list is a Center, a 2 Guard, a wing, and a PG. we’re not competing for championships next year, but hopefully we can put together a respectable product. It’s important to compete.

Without a significant talent infusion, it’s going to be an Eddie Jordan type year.

There is zero chance we’re getting a PG now, right? We have 3 tiny guards on the roster already.
