Pike rehabilators - please, please STOP

My

I'm happy we won, but honestly dumbfounded at the unbridled glee from some fans here thinking this changes the season narrative.
I haven't seen anyone say this changes the season narrative or seen anyone showing "unbridled glee".

You however seem disappointed that we won the game. You need to step away....stop watching the games and running to this board to repeat yourself over and over. Time for you to find another hobby. Maybe go outside and take a few walks, read a book, etc.

Sigh. I’ve explained myself time and again about my RU fandom.
Yay. We won the game. Hooray. I’m not disappointed but it means nothing. Season was lost a long time ago.

You’ve never heard someone say “go f*ck yourself”? Are you an alien?

Did you eat that bag of dicks yet? lol at thinking you deserve a thoughtful response.
Besides Floo, being the self-proclaimed stats savant that you are, haven’t you heard the adage “don’t believe anything you read and only half of what you see”?

I have heard this yes. How is it relevant here? I think I’m missing something.

1. It’s a math quote
2. Shelby knows a lot more than he lets on. Of course he knew the quote, only hearing it said about others obviously. World population minus Shelby detractors equals world population.

Dead coach walking. I've checked out this entire season and so has the fan base. No one is going to want to play for a coach who took two top 5 recruits and make them look pedestrian. It's over until something major happens.
And yet we are in it for top 2026 players …

Except nobody is doing what you said. No “unbridled glee”. The closest was a post about going on a 6 game winning streak and making a push for an At large bid with 15 losses. I believe it was a joke.

The bottom line is that Pike is going to get at least another year to try to turn things around so all eyes will be watching to see how the roster comes together in the off season. It’s a long year and likely a fresh start with a very different roster for better or worse but we won’t know for sure until next November at the earliest so we may as well hope for the best rather than focus on how bad things will be as your doing until we have more information relevant to next year’s roster. .

Pike does have another year and unless he changes a lot of things the result will be the same disappointment. It is less about the jimmies and joes with Pike so the roster is less than 50% of what needs to be upgraded.
Some of the things that need to change seem to be intangibles and coaching characteristics.
It seems he has now had 3 teams give up on him. I am not optimistic for next season at all!

I don’t know if he will succeed. However, I think the gloom and doom is being exaggerated. Pike’s system didn’t fail him last season. The loss of Paul and Cam (especially the timing of it) is what destroyed us. The D was still excellent, but we lost our 2 most efficient offensive players late in the off season and couldn’t overcome that.

In fairness to Pike, I think he was probably spooked by how bad his offense was and focused on making sure that was fixed. This is where he went wrong - Ace and Dylan were already going to fix that. His system has always worked well as long as the offense isn’t awful.

Let’s see what happens. How he handles the big man situation will be telling.

Cam and Paul leaving are the symptoms of the problem of the intangibles and characteristics which the Spensers referred to and was referred to during halftime of a recent broadcast where the entirety of the Big10 network noticed it.
it’s like a QB who throws interceptions, it’s unlikely to change!

No - not really. The reasons Cam left don’t have anything to do with the way he played Pike. Pike fell for it so he deserves the blame. But that’s an isolated situation. He went to great lengths to avoid it this season - arguably too far with Lathan…

The bottom line was the timing of when Cam and Paul left put us in a situation where replacing their offense would’ve been difficult. It’d be fair to argue in hindsight that the Noah Fernandes pick up was a mistake. Paul doesn’t leave if we don’t sign him. We would’ve been much better off with Paul. Bringing in a mid-major PG felt like a slap in his face as a super senior. In reflection, I get it. That was a poor decision.

These are things I think Pike tried to learn from but perhaps in the wrong ways this year. He got spooked that Lathan would leave so he made him a promise and stopped recruiting a BIG. Pike needed to play a little poker and quietly recruit one anyway TBH.

Paul’s offense ? His 6 ppg ? His dribbling away 10 seconds off the clock every possession wildly waving his arms like those 15 ft tall inflatable roadside business attention-getters ?

He was the anchor. Knew how to distribute. The glue that prevented the head down driving into a wall of defenders. The team would’ve been better on offense with him on the team. No question.

This is just nonsense (especially regarding Paul, but even Cam) and to the extent it isn’t, Cam’s (supposed quote that got telephone gamed into a TV interview with his parents) indicates he thinks Hurley is a better coach. Well, Hurley just won back to back championships, no shit.

Also the idea that a QB can’t improve is also pretty stupid lol.

Another mischaracterization. Sure he mattered. Oskar mattered too, by staying out of the way. Others set screens. Everyone matters to offense. Even defense matters to offense.

But Paul’s offense left a lot to be desired. Scoring is what identifies most with ‘offense’ and in that most important sense 6ppg isnt a big loss.

Paul is a PG. One who averaged 32, 32, 28 and over 18 min (as a frosh) first on 3 straight tournament teams and last on a team referred to as a historical stub.

Oskar barely played and didn’t handle the ball. It’s apples and oranges.

I’ll take it a step further - I think the primary issue is post play on our current roster.

That said - if Paul was on the team, we’d be at least competing for a spot on the bubble. Paul rebounded, hustled and distributed the ball. He had some flaws on D but also strengths that would help the current team. His length would be an asset. Most importantly - he could play multiple positions like J Will so when J Will is out of control we’d have a viable alternative. A player like Paul would help a ton.
