Aerial America On Now (10-11pm Tuesday)---New Jersey Featured

here's all you need to know: Rutgers is NOT mentioned. The first college football game is not mentioned. the first baseball game is not mentioned. Frank Sinatra is not mentioned. Even Princeton is not mentioned.

what is mentioned is Manhattan, the Sopranos, some other not so bad historical stuff, Hurricane Sandy.

and oh, LOTS of photos of barbed wire. lots.

So far it's mostly industrial stuff, but things I had no clue about are cool to know (e.g., we were Hollywood two decades before Hollywood was Hollywood). And something that none of us really knows Mr. Screw's thoughts on, but the Colt gun company was founded here (in Paterson).

That show sucks. They were claiming to be showing Atlantic City but 1/2 the shots were of Ocean City

I haven't seen a single barbed wire yet.

62 of the 93 passengers on the Hindenburg survived. I had thought pretty much everyone died.

And iirc, the Hindenberg was supposed to dock at the Empire State Building.. but winds were too high. It did not just "pause" to give passengers a look. C'mon Smithsonian, you're better than that.

yeah.. that sucked.

They showed a 2-second closing clip of Monmouth State's football, which is odd given that no Rutgers was mentioned. I missed the first 15 minute, but didn't see Princeton in the rest of it. Also, NJ is the home of one of the cleanest and largest aquifers in the world, under the Pine Barrens IIRC. So much here in Jersey to be talked about, but our beloved state was showcased primarily as a bustling industrial state.

You didn't look hard enough. It was in Patterson & Trenton & a few other places. Never an up close because ...well...its Aerial America.

As I stated earlier no mention of Princeton so you didn't miss that in the first 15 minutes.

I thought it was fine. You can't squeeze everything into a 40 minute segment.

Remember, they have to make this appealing to everyone so of course they talk about Atlantic City, Sopranos, etc.

Got it. When you first mentioned the barbed wire, I thought they did some flyover closeups of our lovely institutions, such as Rahway Prison (renamed East Jersey State Prison), where they filmed the first Scared Straight episode. The episode must have been tough to produce, since there is so much history and so much going on here. Some things I didn't see them cover or mention, though I missed the first 15 minutes, were the state's production of cranberries (we are the Garden State, after all), the Statue of Liberty, Frank Sinatra, Pine Valley Golf Course (was long considered the #1 course in America, but now I think it's #2), or the many things that go on in the Blue Lot.

Yeah surprised they didnt mention Pine Valley. And it lost it's top ranking to Augusta National the last year or two. But it's not the first time. Augusta was ranked number one for a few years starting in like 2010 but then lost it back to Pine Valley in 2013. Then Augusta reclaimed the top spot. Pine Valley also lost it's top spot years ago to Pebble Beach for a year or two before taking it back.

No cranberries were mentioned. No Frank. No Rutgers or College Football so therefore no Blue Lot mentions. They did speak about the Statue of Liberty...during one of the many Manhattan/NY references.

They also omitted Newark and Camden. I think they were afraid If they flew too low they would be within small arms fire range.

OK, I've seen it now.
I actually thought it was very well done.

I did not notice all the barbed wire at all. The Garden State's agriculture was highlighted with a long segment on tomatoes. I'm OK with choosing one item to represent that, though the cranberry harvest would be very photogenic. Cambell Soup Co. was featured and so they did indeed show Camden. There was a flyover of NJPAC and so they did show Newark. The football field shown near the end was not Monmouth College, but I believe Weehawken HS.
Things they featured that I also would have: Statue of Liberty / Ellis Island / CRRNJ Terminal; Washington's Crossing & battle of Trenton; Molly Pitcher; Edison's labs; Paterson-Great Falls; Delaware Water Gap; Cape May; Atlantic City; Batsto Village; Some Hurricane Sandy Damage; Jersey Agriculture; The Pine Barrens; Springsteen.

Things I would cut: Less on the events of Sandy like when the governor ordered evacuation, etc.; Less on Atlantic City's recent economic troubles (Revel); shorten some segments (Fort Lee / Atlantic City / Bayonne Bridge) .

Things I would add: First Intercollegiate Football Game & Rutgers; Princeton; Morristown (Washington's HQ & Jockey Hollow); Hoboken (Sinatra / First Baseball game); Weehawken Palisades site of Hamilton/Burr duel; Traffic circles & Jug Handles; a Jersey Diner; The Jersey Devil (add to the narration on the Pinelands).

Errors: They do seem to think that Ocean City and Margate are in Atlantic City; The Bayonne bridge, Newark Bay NJTP bridge and the Pulaski Skyway are not the same bridge. They showed these interchangeably while talking about the Bayonne bridge.
